Hoops...if you've never had a time in your life where you took someone at their word and then later, found out they weren't telling the exact truth, you are truly blessed. Of course she should have called the authorities first. I think everyone is in agreement with that. It isn't a brand new idea and has, in fact, been beat to death. And she knows now, in her own words, that the Craigslist thing wasn't the best thing to do either. I think that's been mentioned like a million times also.
I'm passionate about dogs. If I heard one was being abused, I'd probably, because of my passion, believe it, too. I'd definitely go and look into it. It's happened plenty of times just because everyone I know is aware of my passion. Just last week, an acquaintance told me of a Saint Bernard that was being penned up all day in a pen that was so small to the point his leg was sticking through an opening in the pen. It turned out to be valid and I called animal control. If I found out I was wrong, I would be happily wrong. I'm not necessarily saying that any action is better than no action, but in this case, it appears the owner did need help. I'm glad she looked into it. If you don't agree, that's fine.
And I don't give one flying you-know-what if people think I should mind my own business or not. I wouldn't mind my own business if I thought a child was being hurt and I wouldn't mind my own business if I thought a dog was being hurt. Nobody should.

I don't think anyone said to ignore it if the dog did, in fact, appear abused. Just the opposite, actually. What people *did* say is that the authorities need to be brought in, rather than loony deciding it was her battle to fight. I would absolutely contact authorities if I saw an animal I thought was being abused, but I wouldn't take it upon myself to do more that that.

I'm not blessed, just smart enough to check things out for myself on issues that matter before taking action. I don't just "take someone at their word" when it's something important...I do my homework.

Authorities weren't 'interested'. I did say twice I had called. Sometimes they don't care if you calling about people, so I wasn't really upset about them being like...call this number, call that number...leave a message and no one will return your call in 190 hours... I did all of it. I am not an idiot! just sayin'

An abused animal is everyone's business. Her nose (and anybody who knows of this abuse) DOES belong in it. Minding one's business and keeping one's mouth shut in this type of situation makes that person as bad as the abuser. Her business is to report the suspected abuse. Not to post ads on Craigslist to find someone to take a dog that she doesn't know is abused or even available for adoption. One of the points though, is she does NOT know the dog is abused. She heard about it randomly from one person, who it turns out was lying. Even so, if she wants to report it, good for her. Let the authorities investigate. Instead she posted ads on craigslist to find a new owner, then went and found out the dog wasn't being abused at all...oops Hoops, long time no see. Whassup? I said it ton of times about authorities. Just answer to me. Have you EVER tried to contact authorities about animal abuse? I am sure you had not. It is just a common phrase...'you should contact authorities'. And it said by people who want you off their back...said with straight face by those who don't really CARE! I am calling ONE person out who ever had dealt with animal abuse with help of authorities and got result. ANYONE

Yes. Somebody DID basically tell her to ignore the dog. It was the post I quoted in my initial post. The post told her to quit sticking her nose in where it didn't belong. The post said NOTHING about calling the authorities or anything like that - just for her to mind her own business. That is the post I quoted and that is the post I referred to. The posts telling her to call animal control (rightly) and not to post on Craigs list (rightly) were not quoted by me nor did I respond to those. I responded to the one telling her to mind her own business.

ANYONE I have; however, I made sure the abuse was actually going on before I called Animal Control. Animal Control acted promptly and took the two dogs from the man who had mistreated them. I won't ignore it if I see it, but I will be sure before I report it.

Yes, in the past 5 years i've been in my house we called them twice. Once for a dog that was in our yard who appeared to have a broken leg, once because a neighbor had their dog chained to a tree outside with no shade. Both times I knew the animal was being abused, i didn't call because I heard a rumor.

Nobody told her to ignore the dog, they told her to stop sticking her nose into places it doesn't belong. Her nose doesn't belong in trying to find the dog a new home on Craigslist...or a new home period frankly.

Well, besides the numerous drop and runs near us out in the country that I call to have them picked up, I reported a guy down the road from me with dogs and puppies being kept in abysmal condition. Although to be fair, those dogs just ended up being moved after they were investigated and given the set of conditions they had to meet. He did end up paying fines for not disclosing their location, but as far as I know, the dogs were never located. I also was part of a group of people that reported a horse owner and the sheriffs department ended up seizing all 20 of them and putting them up for auction. I ended up with two of them.

I am calling ONE person out who ever had dealt with animal abuse with help of authorities and got result. ANYONE LOL!! Me! I have very good luck with the animal authorities. Of course, we have plenty of no-kill shelters around so I don't have to worry about the animal being confiscated and then put down in 3 days. If I did, it would be an entirely different story. I'd have to help develop an abused animal underground so that the animals just disappear and reappear in good homes!

I have already replied and repeating...I am my nose's owner and I WILL stick it wherever I decided to stick it in! And no people will tell me what to do with my own nose. Telling me to not to stick it is not their business! Is it? And thanks for the succesfull 'calling auithority' stories. I will look into this if need to be next time. But leave my nose alone, it is going to be continuing to do its job!!!

As someone with EXTENSIVE experience in dog rescue and fostering, putting a dog in the FREE section of craigslist is NOT appropriate. Word of mouth is fine if you give the dog to someone you actually personally KNOW (as in, have been to their house and had dinner with the family).
This is how dog fighting rings get their fodder - people trying to 'help' and do a good deed, when frankly the dog is better off being put down by the human society.
I'm glad you are trying to help a dog find a home, tloonya, but it's really best left to experts.

I am calling ONE person out who ever had dealt with animal abuse with help of authorities and got result. ANYONE Look up Stray Rescue in St Louis. They respond to abandoned and abused dogs all the time. There is even a book about the founder of the rescue, Randy Grimm.

It was a wrong thing to say and the poster knows it. She did it before as well, so it is her disposition. 'Keep walking, do not stick your nose into anything...' Whether you like it or not it was UNCALLED for. BTW the dog is spoken for as far as I know for now by one of my customers. Thanks to my nose, Blonde Granny!!!

At this point, I would be more worried about a lady from my grocery store sending strangers from Craig's List over to my house.
