The news ìs stating the shooter never saw combat during his four months in Iraq. ...and troops who "don't see combat" there are still walking around in battle rattle, rifle ready, listening to sirens, incoming, and on alert... so, fwiw, I'm not a big fan of the comparisons about who sees more action...

Has the NRA ever taken a step back in a mass shooting incident?

In cases like we're discussing, guns shoot people by being loaded and in the hands of some asshat/lunatic who shouldn't have a gun. That's how they shoot people. I agree, and these lunatics also seem to be smart enough to find the areas where the possibility of being retaliated against in like fashion is more remote. I believe it was Clinton in the 1990's who required disarmament of the personnel on our military bases (my common denominator) except for the MP's. So therein lies the argument of just about every gun thread. The constitutionality of the individual right to bear arms, or the gun ban segment's effort to remove or restrict firearms from law abiding citizens. I'm firmly in the right to defend myself with firearms camp and view our military bases as yet another nearly defenseless zone to be used as a slaughter pen by the mentally unbalanced. Like our schools, or urban areas with onerous firearm restrictions.

and how do civilians who never even served also have PTSD? You don't have to serve in a war zone to get PTSD.....not that I have seen any confirmed reports of him having PTSD.....

Has the NRA ever taken a step back in a mass shooting incident? Probably about as often as the Brady campaign for gun control, safety, whatever, would. What name are they going by now anyway. It started out as gun control inc. after Jim Brady took a bullet in the Reagan assassination attempt. You do realize that the NRA's don't give an inch policy is in direct response to the Brady campaigns inch at a time gun restriction attempts.
