Good luck Pat, I'm so sorry about your foot. I know it's a real pain but the better care you take of it, the less it will bother you in the future. Could your DH come home sooner than planned? Can your DD spend some time with your MIL?

So for this week's 5 by Friday (May 2): 1. Call a charitable organization to come get the big hutch in the garage. That is the first hurdle to getting my garage organized. 2. Spread mulch, plant annuals, kill weeds, plant grass seed.3. Freelance work this weekend. 4. Work on (as opposed to finish) the kitchen drywall repairs and painting. 5. Mow the lawn. All this seems doable. I have some fun lined up too. Going to see a movie (The Grand Budapest Hotel) tonight. Has anyone seen it? I really need to get to the kitchen drywall this weekend. My big hutch is being picked up Saturday, along with a few boxes of household items and some scrap pieces of wood trim. I still have more gardening to do. The weather's supposed to be nice, and I hope the front/side yards will get done this weekend. 'Tis the season for frequent mowing. I need to plan it for once every 4 to 5 days for probably all of May.

Oops. Forgot to post my 5 by Friday goals. I did write them down and they've been staring at me from my kitchen counter.
1. Work on kitchen drywall. (Yes, still.) 2. Get gardens that are visible to the public (outside the backyard fence) cleaned and mulched. 3. Laundry. 4. Mow, get trimmer line, and weed-whack the whole yard. 5. Get hutch picked up. 6. Walk 4 miles. 7. Buy and install trim rings.
The pickup of the hutch was a major coup. Habitat ReStore came by, and for a $10 donation they took the hutch that I bought from a friend and never used. It sat in my old garage for about 5 years, then I moved it to my current garage, 8 years ago. It was a huge corner hutch, and I have no appropriate corner in my current house. This gives me more room in my garage to store things, so I will be filling up that space soon. And since they were coming by, they took a few boxes of household items I'd set aside for donation, and I decided to get rid of my oak coffee table. My living room is about 8 inches lower than the rest of the house ("sunken" living room) and even though there's dark wood trim on the floor at each place where it's possible to step down (which to me makes it obvious that there's a change there), people seem to miss that step and stumble into the living room. I decided to go without the coffee table so people don't stumble into it. And it makes the room more spacious.
So I had to buy trimmer line for my weed whacker. Since I was at Home Depot I bought more plants to put in my hanging baskets and a few for the sunny garden. I cruised through the lighting area, because for the longest time I've wanted to change out the trim rings on my recessed lights, which are a tarnished, pitted brass. And they have to attach to the light fixture by a certain coil spring. Everything I found that would be suitable would attach to the light fixture by a different way, or that was of such low quality that it looked terrible. And I have 9 of them in my house. Plainly, the lights I have are old, but installing 9 new ones, probably from the attic side, was daunting just to think about, let alone monetarily. So as I cruised through the lighting area, I saw something I had never seen before at Home Depot, or anywhere else. I bought one and tried it out, and it's perfect! So I have another trip to Home Depot on schedule for this morning. Eight more trim rings coming up!
Later today, I plan to walk 4 miles and install 8 trim rings.

Rule #8: If You're Stalling Out, Try Repeating a Declutter Mantra A few of our favorite Peter Walsh–isms...
"That ugly sweater your mother gave you is not your mother."
"You only have the space you have."
"Flat surfaces are not storage areas."
"When you put things into a pile to deal with 'later,' you have lost the battle."
"Everything in your home should reflect your vision for the life you want." ----------- I need to follow #1 on some fur and other coats.

Didn't get the major stuff done last week so most of it is rolling over:
1. Sand the outdoor tables so they can be painted 2. Get rid of the loveseat - in the truck to go to the this week! 3. Take at least 1 banker's box from the garage and scan/recycle/shred the contents - added to the shred pile but otherwise done 4. Scan and organize at least 1 box of photos from the living room 5. Empty out 1 shelf of the pantry for clean out
this week: 1. Empty the bottom pantry shelf (drinks) and wash down the shelf 2. Finish shredding all the papers from file box I culled 3. Empty the box of paper and stuff in the office 4. Document and drop off the box of donations 5. Break down the outdoor shelf and recycle the wood

5 by Friday: 6 today
Today I :
1. emptied 2 litter pans. 2. packed Christmas sugar bowl and 7 mugs away (after 4 years). 3. emptied 4 plastic shoe boxes and took them to the other room. 4. counted my pick-up change jar ($26.93 plus 4 coins that I can't figure out). 5. cleaned the top of the microwave off. 6. sent March's checks to the personal loan person. She just deposited February's checks. I have April's checks ready to go. She always holds on to them for one month just in case I need the money. I hold on to them just in case I need them for one month. They are 2 months old by the time my bank gets them. We both came to that understanding because she is my best friend. I owe about $700 from a $3500 personal loan with no interest.
Before I go to work, I want to clean the veggie and fruit drawer out so I can wash them tomorrow when I go over to watch the kids. The only sink I have is the bathroom sink and there isn't much room in there. My pick-up change is what I find on the floor at work, on the street, and when I drive through BK or McD outside their pay window because some people don't get out of their car to pick up the change they drop. My driver's side window won't go down, so I have to get out to pay and that is when I pick the change up.

Sad to say, the two things not crossed off by last Sunday are still undone. For this week, my 5 must be done by Wednesday. So here they are: 1. House cleaning (vacuum, dust, straighten) 2. Get finances in order, pay bills 3. Grocery shopping 4. Mow and weed-whack 5. Use the power blower on the porches; plant the last of the plants I bought. My planters and hanging baskets are doing well. And last night as I mowed, I saw that the areas I seeded are starting to sprout. Hurray! I was worried that all of my hard work and money spent on grass seed was for nothing.

I don't know what to schedule this week. DIL is done with college for the summer but she has an internship and won't know her hours until about 48 hours before she is needed each day. I can't tell work that I am available before 5 because the other kids are still in school and don't get out in time for me to go to work by 3. I am "on call" until the end of June to watch the 2 youngest, 3 mo and 3 years. If I plan something for the week and I have to watch the kids, I won't get it done. If I don't plan something and don't watch the kids, I could get a lot done. I guess I'll just do it one day at a time.
Monday I go to work at 5 pm. I watch the kids from 8 until 11 am. I will plan for the week guessing that Monday is all I have to watch the kids. If I have to watch them, the list will not get done. I usually watch them from 8 or 9 in the morning until 2, 3, or 4 in the afternoon.
So tomorrow, I am going to: 1. put the stuff on top of my desk in a box and go through it later. I can hear you all now: handle once and put it away, throw it out or file it. Sorry, I am going to box it and go out in the other room where it is quiet and take care of it. The stuff has already been handled at least 3 or 4 times because I didn't have my fire safe file box up here and I just got it here.
2. get the fruit drawer cleaned out so that when I watch the kids I can take it over and wash it out.
3. clean out the other shelf in the fridge. I am down to one shelf from 5 so I did good these past few weeks.
4. start to fill my control journal. I have my desk in a bag done. Now I need my control journal done. I have had the things to do it for quite some time but just never put it together.
5. clean the litter pans out.
6. do laundry
7. knit the shawl for 3 inches.

This coming week is going to be tricky because I'll be dog sitting and my parents are in town.
1. Take another load of stuff to the 2. Downsize my blankets and donate to the animal shelter
3. Take in 2 boxes of stuff to Goodwill (already in the car) 4. Post 10 items on Freecycle or Craigslist 5. Find 20 clothing items I can donate

Sorry, I just deleted a post I had meant to post on the decluttering thread.
I have 93 finals to mark by Thursday (including 93 essays) so I'm not posting any goals here this week or next. My finals and keeping up with laundry are my only goals for those two weeks.
