Back in the day, my dad was an engineer for GE. Part of his job was doing time studies on the employees. They hated him. They called him Kruschev, etc.

Have you done any reading on change management? You might find some good resources to help you...
ETA: I work in a department where change is not embraced. People have been doing the same thing for 30 years, it works for them, and that's the end of that. I was recently part of a project that when fully implemented would essentially save one full time position of work. The project has met a ton of resistance, mostly out of fear and poor communications.
They are now going in a new direction with the project, and are going to try to apply new processes. The problem though, is that this new direction is going to fail miserably.
No one "hated" each other while we've been working on this project. Sure there has been some frustration. But, not enough to make a hostile work environment.

If you manage people, most of them are going to dislike you.
If you lead people, you're going to get a much better result.

If you manage people, most of them are going to dislike you. If you lead people, you're going to get a much better result. And if you fire people, you won't have to deal with their dumb asses anymore. I know which one I'd choose.

Probably union and you can't get rid of them. Firing a few slackers might help you manage the rest though. No matter how much people bitch about their jobs, unemployment can be worse.

Ah, then perhaps having a "come to Jesus" talk with the worst slackers might have an effect? Then personally escorting them out the front door if it doesn't work.

Yeah, like its that easy. But it's up to C how he wants to handle it. DF seems to have Cs personality which can be good or bad depending. It pisses his other employees off though.
