I've always been skeptical of the BMI, as I've indicated on previous threads. According to the official BMI tables, I'm just below obese. I'll admit I probably need to lose 10-15 pounds or so (like most Americans), but going down to 160 is just not realistic. The BMI doesn't take into acount muscle density or even gender. Men and women of the same height will usually mean the man should be a bit heavier.
Nobody who would look at me would even consider me obese, not even close. I asked my doctor about it and he says don't worry about the BMI, and said my ideal weight was probably about 220. There's no way I could maintain 160 pounds, unless I lived in a refugee camp or something. If I want to actually eat like a human being, I need to be at least 200.

I was at the doctor today and could see the computer when they were putting in my info, and I see in RED letters "patient is obese." We'll, alrighty then. My OB/GYN pointed out at my annual visit a few months ago that it'd be good to lose 20 pounds and pointed out where I was at on the BMI scale. Wow...I admit I could stand to lose a few pounds, but obese?? I am 5'10" and generally weigh around 175, give or take a couple pounds and wear a size 12 or 14. Obese....huh....way to make my day
