I'm taking my dogs to the coffee shop across from the county clerk's office where I will sit and cry tears of joy. Apparently, the gal who planted an election sign on my yard a decade ago had trouble sleeping last night and announced special Saturday hours for anyone who might suddenly want a marriage license.
Damn, I like this world so much better than the one that I was born into!

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

I read about that this morning, haapai. Enjoy your day. You should see lots of happy, smiling people.

Celebrating marriage will have to wait. The dogs found me the perfect writing desk (the sign on it said "free") on the way to the clerk's office. So I brought it home instead. Apparently, I'm far more interested in furnishing a room of my own than marriage.

Thank you. Michigan. The last place the name Haapai, the avatar, and the fact I am waiting out a rain storm in my Hawaiian hotel room took me.

The clerk issued 57 licenses to same sex couples and conducted over 30 ceremonies before closing at 1. She may have officiated at the first legal one in the state. That couple had been together for 27 years. She also married a GOP strategist to his partner of 12 years.
A stay was issued late this afternoon. Same-sex couples who only got licenses will have to wait until the stay is lifted to have their ceremonies and to be considered legally married. It could take a year.

Anti-same sex marriage state laws will start falling like a row of dominoes very shortly. Too many legal challenges in the states where it is forbidden. The speed in which this is happening is extraordinary if you think about it.

chicagophoenix.com/2014/03/23/not-so-fast-appeals-court-halts-michigan-marriage-equality/Small setback- so for now the GOP can continue to oppress families such as the plaintiffs: Yes- two nurses raising 3 special needs children- and not all the same race- what a nightmare version of a family it must appear to them. Must make their life as legally complicated as possible. Well not ALL of the GOP: Republican-appointed Chief Judge Bernard Friedman, 70, struck down Michigan’s voter-approved same-sex marriage ban in a lawsuit brought forward by nurses April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse. The couple is raising three special needs children. DeBoer and Rowse sued for the right to adopt the children—also illegal in the state.
