I've been making sure my buffalo wing servings don't drop below twice per week. 6 wings at a time is usually the sweet spot. I cover my dairy (or perhaps my "dairy") by adding blue cheese. I'm a bit concerned about my sausage levels. I haven't had sausage in 2 weeks. Scratch that... I had Italian sausage this weekend, but I haven't had breakfast sausage in a while.
I'm saying this because diet fads do come and go. Atkins was considered a "successful" diet for a while. What kind of diet allows you to eat as much fatty meat as you want as long as you don't touch a potato, just boggles the mind.
It is amazing how advice has "evolved" over the last 20+ years. Like DQ said, something is good, then its bad, then its good again. Coffee, chocolate, red wine...
A few nutrition tricks:
1) Serving size calories only count if you eat the whole serving. So while a serving of 4 cookies has 200 calories, 3 cookies has zero calories.
2) The more syllables an ingredient has, the longer the food will last. This is the YM way, as you don't want to waste food.
3) SOMETHING is going to kill us. Don't deny yourself your favorite foods, only to end up rotting away thanks to radioactive emissions from the iPad you are posting to us from!

I'm back from the endocrinologist. She prescribed metformin and spirilactone. Said I am a pretty straightforward case of PCOS and insulin resistance. So, what type of dietary mix did she recommend for you? High carb? Low carb? No carb? Only Wonder bread and tap water? Inquiring people want to know. And YOU named the thread "Nutrition Advice". my guess would be low carb, since insulin resistant people have issues with carbs... the metformin helps, but still steering clear of carbs (other than fruits/veggies) 80% of the time works best. unless her dr. said pasta and bread everyday! in that case, i'm moving to NY and going to her dr!

I too think I am insulin resistant. Since going off carbs, grains and dairy I have lost 9 pounds and my blood pressure is coming down!

Did the doc at least give you the ever-important and totally believable talk about how you shouldn't worry because after a few days of adjustment, you'll never be hungry and you'll feel fantastic?

I have never followed a diet, but have observed plenty of friends who have. Like you, my roommate in college jumped on the high carb diet plan. She steered clear of the cafeterias and ate pretty much nothing but plain pasta sprayed with I can't believe it's not butter. I lived with her for 3 years and never said anything to her but I thought she was crazy. She was thin, beautiful, smart, talented, very sweet and well-liked. I never understood the obsession with her diet. We lost touch, so I don't know if it had any long term consequences.

My theory is that it mainly depends on the individual. For example, I'm able to eat an all-fat diet and maintain my trim, svelte, 600 pound figure, but the same my not apply to you.
