Word on the street is . . .
Tomorrow after all U.S. markets close, the Air Force will award the tanker contract. Airbus or Boeing?
Get ready for the ride of your life kids. Do you own property in Mobile?
It's gonna be ugly!

After retirement Sun Runner, I'm thinking of waking up to coffee and . . . . a glass of ice cold Carlo Rossi Sangria!
Or perhaps a coffee nudge.

I posted over on another thread Tues. evening that it didn't matter who won the contract but where it was built. Personally I think it will be EADS. I think the Gulf region will be recognized as needing the work more. I think this is the way Congress is leaning. This is only my opinion. Disclaimer: I own Boeing stock.

Your lips say "no" but your portfolio says "yes, yes!"
ETA: I should also put in a disclaimer that I've done work for a Boeing subcontractor in the past.

As long as we are all staking out a position on this ultra-large contract, I believe EDS will win the deal. Think of it as welfare for the EU. I don't know enough about the technology to offer an insight into which proposal is actually the better choice.
One thing that no one can argue with is the old KC135, I believe a modified Boeing 707, has served us well. Most of these planes are older than the majority of posters on this board.

Tough call. Airbus underbid Boeing. And in many of the Air Force software tests, the Airbus outperformed the 767. Boeing has committed that they won't manufacture the plane and lose money. On the other hand, Boeing has never billed the military for a $500 hammer.
I think Airbus's committment that final assembly will be in Mobile will carry a lot of weight. And that will impact their sale price since Alabama will go nuts offering them tax breaks to get those jobs.
Look at the tax breaks Washington gave Boeing for the Everett plant.
Look at the tax breaks Tennessee gave FedEx to get their sorting facility.
Look at the tax breaks South Carolina gave Boeing for the second 787 assembly line.
And it goes on and on.
I think the history of the KC-135 should be factored in as well. Boeing builds planes so good that even Boeing has no idea how many decades they can fly if properly maintained. There are still plenty of 707's out there on cargo runs.

Yes they are. Also throw in the B-52 which is was beget from the 707 program. I remember when these went into service in the middle 50's. OK, I was maybe 4 years old, but I do remember that they were flying well before composite built aircraft were invented. They are still flying. Maybe that says alot about Boeing. I also see an occasional B-17 around. However, IMO just think that congress is leaning towards EADS.

I WAS WRONG!!! I WAS WRONG!!! The lobbyists win. Boeing winning the contract is not a terrible thing. At least you can bet they'll be flying well past 2050. I'm disappointed however about the CUCKOO CHICKEN thread.
