prices of airline tickets into multiple different airports?
I've found several where you can compare the tickets from one airport to "all airports in (city)". But, I haven't found one where you can select any airport in a given country, or combination of countries.
There is such a huge range in ticket prices, and I'm REALLY flexible about which country I fly into. One by one is taking forever (cheapest of those I've searched has been flying into Krakow, can't remember the airline, but it's one we've flown before).
It will be a while before tickets even get listed this far out, but I'm hoping to narrow it down to a handful to compare when the time comes.

Kayak allows you to matrix search. you'll need the airport codes for all the airports you want to search, but you just list them all in either the origin or destination, separated by a comma. your results will list all possible options, including some that arrive at one airport and return leaving from a different - those will be highlighted. not sure if that's what you're exactly looking for, but it may help

I didn't know about the comma thing, I had only been able to search one airport at a time before. I wonder if this works with other sites as well.

I'd also suggest kayak.
I'd also like to make another suggestion.....if you have a complicated itinerary, or you want to do something special, you might want to check with a AAA (if you have it) travel agent.
When I was looking for tickets into Turkey, price was a consideration and we were fairly flexible as to when we flew. However, I was looking to have TD fly into a hub airport in the US and I would fly into the same hub, so we'd fly into Istanbul together. The travel agent was able to do what me spending 20+ hours trying to figure out (on Kayak and other sites) in about an hour. I think that the service cost us $100, and for what we were paying for airline tickets, it was well worth it.
The one thing you need to be aware of when you are looking to fly out of multiple airports that you return to the same airport you fly out of. If you put multiple airports you are willing to fly out of, they can have you fly out of one and return to another. For instance, Lexington, Cincinnati and Louisville were all airports that I flew out of regularly. If you put all 3 in at the same time, it would schedule flights leaving out of Lexington and returning into Louisville. They are all about 70 miles apart, so this WAS an issue for me.

Kayak is good.
But I don't think any of them have Southwest airlines, you have to go to their website for that.
Last time I had to book a ticket is was last minute so DD could attend FIL funeral. I did all the websites and only 1 had direct flight, and "all their bereavement fares were taken" so had to pay a lot. A few days later I remembered that Southwest doesn't do booking sites and likely would have got a better fare, and possibly even bereavement rates.

Georgiagal does Southwest fly internationally? I never checked into that.
Apple, you may also want ot look into which of these airport has the most options for non-stop flights considering your son's fear of flying.

Southwest isn't on any search engine, very good point.
as far as Kayak using different airports to come/go, if the itinerary involves different airports, they are highlighted pretty clearly in the search results.

I started to look, and so far, everything (within my price range) will be two stops, but depending on airline it varies from 15 hours to 35 hours! Fortunately, they say the stops and duration in the list. I also figured out where the "flex days" feature was, so that is helping. I compared a Monday to a Tuesday, and the Tuesday price was at least $100 more. Of course, this is all in pricing for this June since I can't see anything for next June yet. But, I'm guessing it will be similar season-pricing wise.

Airlines put their schedule up 360 days in advance, so you are going to want to start looking just short of a year when you plan on returning. So if you are going from mid-June to mid-July 2015, you'll want to start looking end of this July/early August.
I think that Kayak also has a function of historical flight prices, so you can get an idea on what's a good fare and they will track it for you too.

Apple, I think for mainland Europe, Amsterdam is the low cost airport to fly into. Anyway, it was one of the cities in the Netherlands or Belgium. Maybe Laterbloomer can help us out. I think she had it dialed in when she and GW went about a year ago.

This website allows you to select all airports within X distance of your desired destination. If you enter a distance, it'll even show you all available airports within that radius on a map. Here is a screenshot: The website: matrix.itasoftware.com/(I use this site to doublecheck airfares every time I fly. It has never failed to find me the lowest price.)

What if I want to search 'cheapest fare going anywhere anytime?' There are places where you can sign into that will give you sale prices from your home airport to various locations. You it is very unlikely that they would give an anytime fare though.
