Aerie, the lingerie brand of American Eagle, has launched a new campaign that all of their photos will be untouched - including those on their websites. The brand is apparently aimed at 15-21 girls, but I'm older than that and have a couple of their bras.
One of the articles about it
What do you think of the campaign? Solely for the attention or trying to help? For those of you with daughters - will you steer your teen to this line because of it and away from other lines geared towards teens like Pink? (Though I always thought Pink was geared towards college girls)

they're still very slim women with big boobs which does not happen in nature that often.

True. One article said they had videos or something that showed how their bras fit and had the A to D cups on there. Haven't bothered to look for the video though.

So has Dove (yet again). And guess what, this time they've decided to find their "natural models" in France (where size 10 is considered fat).

As I get older and less toned I've learned that size is irrelevant. I'm a very small size but my belly is not what most size 10 young girls have if you know what I mean. I'd rather be a size 10 with a firm, flat belly than a size 4 (or whatever) with a jelly belly. I'm just sayin'. And I do like that they don't photo shop models. If you are blessed with natural beauty and a very nice body/shape - use it to sell products and get paid for doing it if you want to. But there is no need to look unnaturally beautiful or not even human like some photos look when photo shopped to excess. But I won't buy clothes or not buy clothes (for me or my kid if I had one) because they do or don't photo shop. I buy because I like the product they are selling. Marketers hate me. I don't fall for their tricks or care if I "fit in" with their name brands or latest greatest whatever they are selling.

Also wonder how tall they are. Most people think I wear several sizes smaller than what I do thanks to my height. So maybe they get the size 10/12 but they're 6ft so proportionally it doesn't look like it?

Size 10 here in America doesn't mean what it use to mean - you're potentially pretty plump in an American size 10. Back in the day when I weighed 20 pounds less than I do now I was a size 10 - today I weigh more, my thighs, waist, and butt are inches bigger than they were back then - but MIRACULOUSLY I'm a size 6! I'm fatter but slim and trim thanks to Vanity Sizing. The thing I hate about photoshopping models is when they elongate necks and arms and legs and also trim away waists and hips (creating unnatural looking freaks). I realize that people come in all shapes and sizes... I just really hate trying to figure out what a piece of clothing will look like on me - when it's shown on some elongated, boobless, hip-less photoshopped monster.

I think the campaign is an improvement. I'd rather look at something real than fake, and I think its better for young women to not strive for a truly impossible standard of beauty (because strive they will).

Size 10 on what height woman, though? Size 10 on someone who's 5'0" looks different than size 10 on someone who's 5'10". Not only that, but not everybody is proportioned the same way. I doubt many men would object to a woman who had to buy a size 10 dress to fit her chest, but if she bought separates only needed a 4 or 6 for pants or a skirt, for example...
There's no way to quantify a single number that represents "fat." It's all so individual.

The French are not generally not tall. Most of my female students are between 5'2 and 5'6 (college-aged, freshman and sophmores). Some are shorter and some are taller, obviously. One of my students is a pretty well-known professional model (I didn't even recognize her in the ads, another teacher pointed them out to me). She is on the taller side, so 5'8?
French girls are generally pretty linear ... not much boobs, and not much butt. BUT, Dove originally started that "natural woman" campaign in the UK, several years ago. If you look at the original ads, several of them were EASILY size 12 or 14. So I got a good laugh out of the fact that I saw Dove advertising here in France for their next "natural woman" campaign. Of course they'll say they are trying to get all of Europe into the act, they'd never admit they prefer slimmer "natural women".
The VAST majority of my students are stick insects. They're all vertical, with nothing sticking out on either side. But trust me, anorexia (or rather bulimia) is alive and well in the 21st century, and the school janitors have to clean up after lunch every day.
My DD (5'2, just like me) wears an 6 or 8, but to her fury, she is considered "fat" here because she has a butt (but no boobs, poor thing LOL). I'm of Eastern European stock, so kill me, we have butts. Just one more thing for DD to blame me for LOL. DD keeps reminding me, I gave her those genes, so according to her, I OWE HER a boob job. LOL.

Well, whatever size the model in the picture happens to be, she is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm sure that a lot of men are fantasizing about her ( when she comes of age, of course - just to be PC ). I don't think it really matters what "size" she is. She is blessed with natural beauty, and that's a mighty provocative picture.

The only problem I see with that picture is that her panties don't match her bra.

I wish more companies used "real" models. It makes me sad that kids, (like my DD) who are more perfect than they realize, don't feel good enough due to doctored-up photos.

I think that girl is absolutely gorgeous. She is curvy and doesn't have that anorexic look.
But no, I wouldn't buy this brand just because they are using real models. I can't imagine my daughter caring, either.

models don't really persuade me either way, but a few months ago, I got a flyer in the mail from JCP, and the models looked like stick figures. No effing way I'm going to look good in those clothes. I was never that skinny, even when I was borderline anorexic. I can't find any clothes that I like at JCP anyway, but I think if they would focus on getting good looking clothes for people in the size 10-16 range, they could turn around.
