Did okay last week. Tossed about 1/5 of an uneaten homemade black bean cake last night. Everything else I've been conscious of either using it up or putting it in the freezer.

I have not done my big shop for the week yet but I do not recall having to trash anything this week.

I know i is noit my usual day but wanted to post while I remembered:
Tossed about 2 oz (about $0.14) of sliced mushrooms from a pkg I bought on the clearance shelf 10 days ago. I will be using the last of a bunch of cilantro today so no waste there.

Tossed about 5 slices mushy cucumber last night. This weekend it will be joined by a 1/4 package homemade sugar free Jello, flax seed muffin, and whatever else is lurking in the fridge.

I HATE, HATE, HATE any & all food waste. I also hate overpaying for something I used on a semi-regular basis. I am lowish on potatoes. I usually buy the 10 lb bag on sale because I REFUSE to pay 0.49 or more on the weeks I do want/use potatoes. They are on sale, 1.59/bag, at my big fruit market this week BUT I had about 2+ lb left from my last buy. They were getting a bit sad but still useable. So I made a batch of potato pancakes on Fri & will use the last 4 in potato soup today or Sun. Searched out a recipe that ONLY needs inexpensive stuff I HAVE/keep on hand.
rESULT: NO FOOD WASTE THIS WEEK

I normally post here Thur or Fri as I do my main shopping for the week. However, this week I will be splitting my stops & shopping on Sun (farthest stores on my way to DD’s) and Tue (near stores).
That said, I had NO food waste this week in spite of eating on w/leftovers on Wed. I just redid my menu plan as I went along. Good thing pencils have erasers.

Whoops. I was wrong about no waste yesterday & I will forget if I don’t post immediately. I found an unopened pack of corn meal tacos in the fridge almost all moldy, saved 3 so about 0.27 into the trash. NO clue when I bought them. No dating on the pkg. To avoid this happening again I will either break down the pkg after buying & freeze or ONLY buy when use is planned, freezing the remainder.

This week was 1 peach and 1/2 a bowl of hommade coleslaw. Bought cabbage because my fav lettuces had gotten SOOO $$ but I don't really like slaw. Will use remainder as stuffed cabbage and/or in stir fry.

Pleased with what little waste we've had at our house. The only thing I've tossed recently is a tortilla because I burned it. I was able to save the contents, however, and re-toasted them in a fresh tortilla.

I had cleaned out and reorganized the freezer. For sure one package of hamburger (ouch) which had a tear in the packaging and was severely freezer burned got tossed. Also two ears of corn that were nasty that were in the back of the veggie drawer in the fridge.

We are 1 week into our organized freezer in the garage. So far, we're crossing off what has been taken from the freezer. I really need to do the same thing for the one in the kitchen. Things get tossed in there and usually never see the light of day again.

I just took out of the freezer half a loaf of italian bread. I'll toast it tonight for homemade bruschetta. Earlier in the week I had to get rid of one hotdog bun. I tore it up and fed the birds. Does that count as waste?

Not if the birds are happy. I use a lot of old bread and buns for homemade croutons, though. I just toss allow the pieces into a large bread wrapprt until its full, then make them
Allow = all wrapprt = wrapper. This is what happens using iPad

Another week has gone by! The only thing tossed was about 1/3 cup leftover pork and beans. We opened them before DH went out of town for work last week, and since I don't eat them....

Excellent job, Holly! I ended up tossing a serving of last week's chile enchiladas, $1.42. I didn't freeze it with the other portions because I thought I'd end up getting to it. I thought wrong. Other than that, we are doing a good job at eating and using up leftovers in creative ways. I thanked DH last night for being on board with me about this.

Last week I tossed an eggplant (free with coupon), and bok choy .37. Super bummed. Oh, and DH didn't get to the rest of the garden produce before the freeze, and we lost a bunch of tomatoes.

I just threw away some canned corn today. I had company last week, so I made two cans. Only about half got eaten. I planned to eat it during the week, but everything I made didn't go with corn!

If you have leftover veggies like that corn, just keep an ongoing 'add to' bag in the freezer, and then one day make veggie soup and add them all in...

Tossed another 4 or 5 strawberries. My fault. I had been telling myself to freeze them for at least a week but never got around to doing it. Also tossed 3 limes. I keep a couple on hand for cooking certain dishes but most often end up tossing them. I’m going to get a small bottle of lime juice instead & ONLY buy fresh limes if I need grated peel.
Tossed bottle of vanilla syrup from the dollar store. Tasteless. I am going to be more careful of my buys at the dollar store. I think I have a handel on what is ok & what is not.
FOOD SAVE I had 3 macintosh apples that were a bit too mealy for my taste. Turned 2 into a batch of waldorf salad (red grapes on sale). Final one I will slice up & top w/ an oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg & butter mix then baked when I nesxt turn on the oven. No crust apple pie.

We did really well last week at not tossing any food. DH is out of town again this week, so this morning I put some leftover corn niblets into the freezer so they wouldn't go to waste. (I love, LOVE corn, but try not to eat it due to the carbs.) I need to remember the leftover veggie freezer bag idea oped mentions above.

My best intention to eat more celery and less chips sometimes works. This time, chips won and the celery got tossed because it was icky.

Last week I tossed 1 serving each of quiche and Toscana soup. I made large batches before I knew DH was going out of town last week and simply could not eat one more bite of either/ Was so sick of it I didn't bother freezing them. This morning I poured out some coffee creamer I purchased this summer for a work function, and a tiny bit of horseradish. We need more fridge space and that helped a bit. First world problem.
