I have a banana sitting here. I don't like them when they get too soft, so I'm going to let it ripen a little more then toss it into the freezer. It takes about 5 frozen bananas to make banana nut bread, and that's what I'm going to do with it.

The celery I was supposed to be munching on rather than tortilla chips.
I have some suspect yogurt that was dated 1-25. This has zero preservatives in it.
I had tri colored peppers that went back when I was ill and couldn't eat. I was spooked by a half full bottle of powerade zero and wouldn't drink it. Later I tried it and it's fine.
Beef stock from roasts that I'm planning on making soup out of is usually tossed.
I try to watch and freeze whatever before it's expiration time.

today is grocery shopping day this week. I cannot remember having to toss anything this week. Used or froze anything before it went bad.

I have a container of mushrooms that DH bought, ate a couple of them, and never touched them again. I'll toss it out today and peek around to see if there are any other random things in the fridge that need to go.

Had to toss a half avocado last night. It had concealed itself in the produce bin.

Time to clean out the fridge again. Sooo much food. Lettuce and celery in the backyard for the bunnies that live there ( don't mind throwing that out when it's still edible because of the bunnies). Left over soup, noodles, stuffing. I leave small portions in the fridge in case hubby wants a bunch of small sides with that day's leftover main course, but he doesn't touch it unless I make the plate and Saran Wrap it for him to find in fridge. Some stuff we make for kids and still not touching anything new, but it's there for multiple days of exposure from just putting some on their plates.

It pains me to throw food away. Our family is actually very good about this for a few reasons. The first is that we'll eat leftovers, second is that we'll eat the same thing for dinner 3 or 4 days in a row (not sure how long that will last as the kids get older and wise up to what is going on), and the other is that I have little kids so must do food prep on weekends. Typically on Sundays I will prep all the fruits and veggies for the week. So for example if we've bought a few pounds of strawberries I'll wash all of them and cut the stems off and then put them in plastic tupperwares. I find they will keep well this way for the week (I only grocery shop once a week) though they rarely make it that long. My soon to be 4 y/o son will eat 1lb of strawberries in a sitting. I do the same with brocolli, wash, clean, cut and store in tupperware. I've become pretty good at knowing how many fruits/veggies we need to last the week. Sometimes we're running a little low the day before I need to go to the store so I make sure to always have a bag of frozen peas around or fruit with a longer shelf life like apples. Typically we only tend to throw out things like condiments as we don't use them much and they're mostly around for guests.

Tossed about 1.5 servings French toast casserole last week because I was over the carb intake. Besides that, we're keeping a reign on things. I was able to use some semi-sad looking celery in the mock tater salad I made last week.

Tossed half a leftover container of corn kernels, and 1/2 head cabbage last night. In my defense, I was out of town for the majority of this week, and I neglected to tell DH to make sure he gets to it. Has anyone frozen cabbage, and if so, what was the result? I think cabbage turns to mush when you thaw it..... Time for an experiment. Freeze a small amount and let us know. I have some shredded I could try.

I freeze cabbage all the time for soup. I cook it first so it is softer then put in ziplock bags in the freezer. I make soup all the time and cabbage is a good filler in soup.

Doiung my main grocery shop today. Don't want to have to go near stores into the holiday weekend. So far have NOT needed to toss anything, which considering how much I have eaten out in the last 7 days (3x) is AMAZING.

Earlier this week I tossed a few ounces of pork roast, and 1/2 can or so re-fried beans. Oh, and 1/3 mushy cucumber. I read if it's slimy, it's still okay to eat, but mushy? Meh.

We're pretty low on food waste. Meat is frozen, we finish leftovers. Fruit and greens are turned into smoothies once they starts to look on the edge. I did toss a couple of strawberries that got moldy two days after we bought them. Iceberg lettuce and celery are two things that that I will toss without a twinge. They are inexpensive, good to have around, and not something I want in my smoothie.

Does it count if you didn't buy it? Dad always empties the cabin fridge into mine when he leaves, but the clery send turnips hit the can today.
Also threw some old pancake mix daughter had made a lonely piece of store bought cheesecake someone brought to game night last weekend.
The end of the strawberries in the box were my fault! Shouldn't have let them go bad.

I think cabbage turns to mush when you thaw it..... Time for an experiment. Freeze a small amount and let us know. I have some shredded I could try. I did freeze a small baggie of shredded cabbage. Thawed it. It was mushy but would have been great for soups.

Forgot to post this week.
had to toss $0.30 of bean sprouts because ALL the places I can buy them they are pre-pkg and $0.15 cooked green beans that I accidently left out 2 days and they developed white fuzz.

Tossed 1/2 can chicken broth b/c it had been in the fridge for over a week. Cost approx 50 cents.
Tossed a IDK how old bag of hamburger buns from the freezer. Cost zero b/c they were leftover from a volunteer outing.

We're getting ready to go on vacation and there is not a lot left in the fridge. I think some soup, which I'll have for lunch is about all that's left. Last night, I cooked up all the rest of the veggies that were left over (strange combination of about 10 asparagus spears, 6 baby bok choy and a small head of romaine). Used the dregs of the milk to refresh the leftover mac and cheese that we had with the veggies.
I did toss the last of the salad dressing. Not a lot to toss, maybe enough for another salad but as it has egg in it, I don't like keeping it around more than a week.

I often have to toss the last of the celery. I read that keeping it wrapped in foil will keep it fresh longer.
I had to toss the last few strawberries this week too.

This weekend I tossed the last of a salad a friend brought to DH's BD party, some leftover canned corn, and an entire bunch of celery which had FROZEN in the bottom refrigerator drawer. I tried to thaw it by running water over it, but it was mushy and beyond repair.

I usually post later in the week but I did my main grocery run yesterday.
All I had to toss this past week was 2 strawberries. Pretty proud of myself for how little I have been tossing even w/the amount I have been eating out.
