As far as Mid, well it's beyond me to be able to figure out how a guy can hope for a stock market and currency collapse when he openly says that he owns stocks? That tells me that he is either incredibly self destructive, or he's less than honest about his supposed investments. I can't believe I'm doing what could be construed as coming to Mid's defense, but... I think the only stock Mid currently owns is HL. Basically a silver miner to add to his physical silver. I did see in a post of his somewhere recently though that he only supports mining in USA & Canada, and he should probably check out the HL Mexico mine to see if they live up to the safety standards he has set. I also wonder how he knows where the physical he buys is originally mined, but that's beside the point. Speaking only for myself Q, I own many different dividend paying stocks and I am actually rooting for a nice 20-40% drop in the markets. I can then buy more revenue-generating shares at cheaper prices (or higher yields if you will). I'm making a big assumption that the companies I have invested in to this point will continue their current dividend payment amounts and that by the time my wife and I die (say 35-45 years from now) the stocks will have made it back to the place where we bought them so we can leave a certain dollar value for each of our girls. The most important thing to us though is to maintain or increase (keep up with inflation over time) the income stream they are generating so we can retire when we expect to and maintain the lifestyle we hope to. I truly wish I'd thought of this strategy 20 years ago, but better late than never I suppose. I don't know what an extended recession (if/when we stop the Govt deficit spending) or depression would do to dividend payments. Not sure how much or for how long margins need to compress before dividends start to get cut. These are all questions I would have preferred to have the answers to after the Tech Wreck in my 30s, but will now find the answers to in my 40s. Oh yeah. VZ still beats the tar out of T. So let it be written, so let it be done!

See Mid! That's how you do it. Just break down their dialect, buy them books, and in turn they are busy, (chewing on the covers that is). Enough fun for today people! Crappie time!

Decoy,
Nobody is running, we're just not interested in your tired tirade. For you Decoy, it's always "crappy" time if you get my meaning. I've told you both before, if you think money is dead, I'll give you 50 cents per dollar of face value for every usd you have in the metal/currency/whatever of your choice handled through the Title and Trust company of your choice. You might want to have your employers compensate you in something other that money too.
Driftr,
I'm with you. There are some stocks I wish I had purchased before recent moves up that may be bought soon. This looks to be an opportunity in the making, but it looks like the div producers are holding relatively strong.

I give you a buck, you give me 50 cents in pre 1964 coins. Sounds like a deal there isn't it Q-TIP??? A whole buck for a bunch of junk silver. Not a bad offer. You could instantly double all your fiat notes just like that. What a deal, ahhh?

Yeah, work the collectible angle to end around the argument, and we've all got pre-'64 collectible coins around. Currency Mid. Raw metal. 50 cents on the dollar. Come on, you don't believe in those debt notes anyway. And as it is, I'm paying the dealer premium on the metals. You can pick the trust company. How far are you from Milwaukee?

I'm serious about this, Mid. You and Frank are either going to stop attacking each other's intellect or find a lot of your posts exiled into the ether.

OR... you could give them both a dedicated thread, Virgil. I seem to recall a similar duo and a solution that transcends to this day.
