Does anyone have any experience with them? I have a chance to save $115/yr for my home/auto policy if I went with MetLife for auto. I currently have them as my home insurance carrier. For auto we have Travelers and I always liked them, so am not sure if $115 yr is worth a switch. And of course it can all change next year..... What should I do

What should I do Lena, you might want to check with your state insurance department. They often keep track of complaints, cancellations and the like by carrier. This information would help you get an idea if MetLife is going to give you a hard time when you file a claim, will apply your premiums to the correct policy, will cancel your insurance with the first fender bender, etc.

I used them for a while (home and auto) and then switched to state farm for a cheaper rate. I've had no problems with either.

Met Life if a big company. I would check for complaints, but they are pretty highly rated on most surveys. I think all the big ones are pretty good, its the smaller ones that tend to have more problems

Try liberty mutual, too. I saved almost 500 a year.

Does your current auto carrier do home insurance too? The premium difference looks like maybe a home/auto discount amount. Many companies give discounts if you combine home and auto with the same carrier.

My agent does a comparison twice a year and plays with numbers to get the cheapest TOTAL number. So far, for the past 3 yrs we always had two different companies, it seemed it was the cheapest way to do it. Also, while I am as cheap as you get and would LOVE to save money, when it comes to insurance companies their service is actually more important to me bc when the shit hits the fan I need them to do right by me. Why do grown up decisions are so hard

When dealing with insurance issues, I balance customer service against cost. I'm not going to pay rock bottom prices only to have to do battle when I do need to use the services.
MetLife used to send me info while I was working, as they had a deal through the university where I worked. Even with that deal, I did not see any appreciable savings from my State Farm policy.
I now have USAA and am very happy with them.
