should be added to my drivers license!
I consider myself to be a professional driver, with performance enhanced parts added to my Honda. I or rather, there should be a drivers test that I will pass to add a symbol on my drivers license to allow me to drive well above and beyond the local speed limits.
have you seen a car that has a top speed of local MPH speed limits? I haven't

Really? And would you have to put enormous decals on your car saying "Look out, here I come!!!!" "Pull over, suckers, you're going to slow for my enhanced car!" "Hey nice police officer, don't pull me over, I'm special!"

If you want to drive your car at its maximum speed, find a closed track somewhere. The rest of the drivers on the road do not need to deal with speed demons interrupting the flow of traffic.

"Hey nice police officer, don't pull me over, I'm special!" well years ago, when I had a rental / loaner Honda Accord, while my performance enhanced Honda Accord was at the dealership working on repairs. I had forgotten about factory settings and took an off ramp a little too fast. when I was quickly reminded hey this is not my Honda! in my Accord as long as there is no one in front of me when taking the off ramp. I just remove my foot from the acceleration pedal, down shift one gear, and turn the wheel. the car handles the turn at whatever speed, with grip to the road. no need for enormous decals - too easy to fake

You want a special endorsement on your drivers license to be exempt from the speed limits that ordinary, non-professional, drivers have to abide by. So when you're doing 70 in a 45 zone, how is a police officer to know that you have the special license? How is the ordinary driver to know that you are special, and not just some asshat driving too fast through their residential neighborhood?
Hence, the large decals to alert everyone that you are special.

Try not to get "too" special. A friend of DH's, as a teen, was caught speeding on a main road around here several times. The last time the cops brought him in, he was clocked at 125 mph. The judge said he had a choice: jail, or enlist in the Army. He chose the Army.

Z thinks the law shouldn't apply to him - so he constantly puts other drivers in danger with his speeding & reckless driving. (Of course, it's always the cops "out to get him" when he gets fined/ticketed).

Oh, and while I'm at it young man, I fully agree with others that you do NOT have the right to endanger others even IF you had some "special" license. Get a license to drive Indy cars or Funny Cars and go to the track and knock yourself out having fun!

If we were really smart, we'd have lanes designated for traffic going certain speeds to minimize problems with mixing traffic trying to drive at all sorts of different speeds. Kind of like walking paths for walkers, bike lanes for bicylists (we'll need casual and racer in training lanes for cyclists), guide lanes, with K-rail on both sides, for the control challenged, in attentive, or those talking on cell phones, then the 50 MPH lane, the 60 MPH lane, the 70 MPH lane, the 80 MPH lane, and the ludicrous speed lane for Z and his pals. In the mean time, you're gonna have to get your speed fix at the track.

the track - race track - to race opponents and see who has the fastest car. not interested in that. I would like to have construction workers build a two lane highway over or under highways, with toll entrance of say $50 and free to those with the special professional driver decal on license. speeding through residential streets! wow no, no, no way - that is truly a horrible idea.

LOL - kent I'm not a total jerk! I've seen the autobahn clips of exotic cars crashing, and the mix of high performance cars with say daily drivers. as one that feels I have better than average driving skills, I do understand there will be situations with public driving that can not be avoided.

x 100
X 1000 more. Dumb drivers - people who think they're "above the law" - are the problems and cause more accidents/deaths, than those who obey the speed-limit signs and rules of of the road. They don't swerve into non-passing lanes to get ahead of people who ARE driving safely - especially in weather-related conditions.
It pisses me off to see jerks breaking the law - especially since I lost a family member to a reckless driver, as well as a friend in high-school who was side-swiped by a person who felt the law shouldn't apply to them.
You want to race, go to the track - knock yourself out - don't do it where responsible drivers are obeying the rules of the road and obeying the law.

There was a crash display that I saw with DD back when she was still in high school. A motorcycle was flying down the road. A young girl was distracted, & pulled out right in front of the motorcycle. She never even saw him coming. The motorcycle actually went THROUGH the car, & was wedged inside it. Both drivers were killed. The police were taking the car around, with the motorcycle wedged inside, to make both points, that speed & distracted driving are a deadly combination.

yea I've seen that crash display, or think I have. I am very attentive to my environment when driving. well constantly looking for the police is partially why! I was recently speaking with a Project Manager at work last month stating I think I wouldn't be a part of a pile up. he agreed he thinks he would be able to avoid as well because we are aware of our environment. We both feel even if we were speeding, we still could avoid the crash.

They do those here too, Busy. They take wrecks of two cars (or car-motorcyle) on a flat-bed to high-schools to drum into young drivers the reality of what can happen if you want to be a smart-a$$ on the road and not take precautions under all conditions and drive responsibly/obey the signs AND the law/speed limits.
It has quite an impact on young drivers and really brings them back to the reality of being a responsible driver.

And even if you could both avoid the crash, how many people would have accidents trying to avoid your unnecessary maneuvers?

Z, I think the only practical solution is for you to move to LA. Driving rules are different in LA. Several times I was passed by CHP when I was doing the high side of 75 and they didn't bat an eye.
And the LA freeways are a great tune up for your car handling skills. Driving in the slipstream of the car ahead of you, less than half a car length off the bumper ahead of you. 80 mph to zero as fast as you can. Check your mirror while braking to see if the car behind you is going to be in your back seat. Lane changes that allow for at least two sheets of paper between you and the cars ahead of and behind you. Lanes changes to dodge freeway furniture that is falling off the pickup ahead of you. Test your spatial sense by ducking below the dash to avoid the debris flying through the air over the car ahead of you; be sure to stay in your lane while ducking; don't slow down or the car behind you will get up close and personal; and watch out for slowing by the car ahead of you. Now do all this in a traffic lane that is a couple of feet narrower than in most areas (Caltrans has narrowed lanes to allow five lanes of traffic to drive on four lanes of pavement). And to top it all off, add motorcycles driving between lanes of moving cars.
Oh, yes! It's as exciting as it sounds. What a thrill drive!

I think that most people who think that they're "superior drivers", aren't. They're just arrogant and aggressive jerks who will eventually cause an accident in their hurry to be wherever they need to be 5 minutes faster.

On the Interstate, we do have a "speed lane" that runs through one county. It's called an Express Lane, and it's designed to get you from the county line (northernmost border) to downtown, or the reverse (the lane is on the north and southbound sides of the interstate). People who use it are not getting on and off the interstate at any exits in between the county line and downtown; it's just there for one purpose, and it actually serves the purpose quite well. Not sure if other counties plan on installing the lane, as it is very expensive per mile.
Oh, and as for "special" drivers, we had one arrested in Miami today. Kid who could not figure out why the cops were hassling him in his "enhanced" sports car. Of course, Justin Bieber thinks he's special no matter what. Didn't stop him from getting busted on drag racing, drug and DUI charges, though. Even if he was driving a Lamborghini.
Now, if only Canada would take him back.

I think because the last was to the far left and people were not able to get over to the far right to exit, for one - and for two - people were putting actual dummies in their car, or putting a baseball cap on the passenger seat to trick Troopers enforcing the 2 minimum passenger rule to drive in that lane. yea - I saw the story on Bieber as well on the news starting yesterday.

Drunk Drivers Distracted Drivers Below Average Drivers Average Drivers Above Average Drivers Professional Drivers <----Me! Exceptional Drivers I think those of us that can drive manual shift are at above average driver level. I passed my written and drivers tests to get my motorcycle license (or endorsement symbol on my drivers license) and I've never ridden a motorcycle. (rented a scooter)

So do you think you should be able to break the law? (Your thread title).
You call yourself a "Professional Driver".
No you're not. You don't drive Indy or NASCAR.
You also put other RESPONSIBLE drivers on the road at risk with your recklessness.
It's actions and chances you take that put innocent and cautious drivers at risk - like the two people I lost to irresponsible careless drivers who felt the "law" didn't apply to them.
OBEY THE RULES and DRIVE RESPONSIBLY!!
I wonder if you had to take your driver's road test again, if you'd even pass.

Stop kidding yourself. You may be slightly above average as a driver, but I doubt it. You just seem to be relying on driving the Knight Industries Two Thousand (known to its friends as KITT).
