My DD worked a summer job that ended when she returned to school in September. In December she was married and took her husbands last name. The W-2 for her summer job arrived today and it is, of course, showing her maiden name.
Does she need to have a new W-2 issued in her married name?

I think it'd be okay since the SSN matches but I could be wrong. I've had W2s with different addresses and no problem.

Her name on the tax return must match her SSN. If she has changed her name with Social Security, that is the name that needs to go on tax return. If it has not been changed and she wishes to change it, she should get that taken care of--as in before the tax return is filed.
The IRS matching program matches SSN information as far as amounts, not names and addresses.
The problem will occur if the name used on the tax return does not match the name that Social Security has on record.

Thank you for the info. She should be good as far as her social security card goes. She has already been down and gotten her name changed with them and has a new card.

She should be okay.
Her former employer reported the data they had on file, more than likely there will be no issue related to the change.

Thank you for the info. I just try and head off problems before they happen.
