I posted awhile back that I really want to curtail our food budget and one way I was going to do it is to stay out of stores.
I am very happy to report that it is working. Of course, my husband "lovingly" pointed it out that it has only been two weeks, but nonetheless, I've only bought food on shopping days AND so far hasn't thrown anything out.
So far so good! yay me!!!

I find that is the key for me as well. Planning a weeks worth of meals, and staying out of the grocery store in the meantime. Sometimes it's easier said than done.

Disagree! I am buying meat on sale (and those ORGANIC filet mignons where cheap!) and according to what kind of meat or fish I had bought I am going with the rest of the shopping. I would never write (out of blue) Wednesday dinner: filet mignon. No freaking way I would plan porterhouse steak for Thursday!
However when I walk into the store and all these cuts right there I grab! I have 10 steaks in my freezer that were $15.99 lb and I bought it for quarter of that. Its waiting for summertime!

I don't buy meat during my weekly shopping. And I make my menu AFTER I go shopping

Beef we get at a local farm. Chicken - I stock up on when we are in MD in Wegmans. We don't eat pork. I buy fish mostly in TJ whenever I get there - it's about an hour away from my house.
