I can't bloody remember it was 18 years ago. Car seats where different then, I mean not all car seats, but I certainly didn't have the base and seat ones, so I have no idea. my oldest is 15 and we had the base and the seat.....

Nutty - babies r us can help show you how to install and so can the local police and fire station. Even if you learn how to do it, have a professional check it. It's very important.

My youngest will be 20 feb 8th. They may have been out but if they were pricey then, dh was in the navy and we probably got the cheapest. I really don't remember.

OK so when she brings the base over tomorrow, we are just going to put the seatbelt through the base and that's it and Scarlett will be safe and secure. Actually no. 3 isn't an option because we are bringing Scarlett to see her greats, that's the whole point and I am not allowed to take her on my own. <sad face> Give your daughter a break her baby is what 6 weeks old? Sorry, Grandma isn't allowed to take a 6 week old baby without mom or dad on trip at that age IMO. If you are expecting to, you are overstepping. Not saying it is bad if parents were up to it and GPs were too, but it is inappropriate to ask a new mom to do that.

We went to a movie after he was put to bed for the night and I stressed out the whole time we were gone. LOL 6 weeks. No way. I was barely setting him down at that age, he was still nursing practically every couple hours.

From this thread it seems like she was paying the entire trip until the possibility of everyone not fitting in her car came up, so I doubt her design was to do the trip without the mom/dad - she was just saying the whole trip was to get the greats to meet the baby which won't happen without the parents coming too. Or at least def one, and not so sure the dad would let mom & kid go off with OP based on the thread but I don't know.

For a trip, it would have to be something pretty special for me to let you take DD and she'll be 1 on Monday. I have left her overnight (more than just my 5 nights in the hospital). MIL watched both kids overnight at our house for 2 nights while we camped in October and both kids spent the night with friends in November so we could go to a wedding reception. But both times we could get back to the kids in about an hour. A trip is something different.

Yes, other grandma should not have been complaining to you about you not footing the whole bill. Maybe C was asking his mom for help in covering the gas, and she doesn't want to, so she blamed you.
Is this an overnight trip?
Can you bring the greats to visit the baby, instead of the other way around?

I totally misread this whole thread. Wow! I thought OP was the mom and was having problems with baby daddy. Going to the the first post ETA: Ahhhhh, I see. What a butt hole he's being! I say seatbelt the carrier and it's good.

Nutty - I know this wasn't the point of your post, but if you just have the seatbelt then you most likely won't use the base for the carseat. Just the carrier and the hooks on it to thread the seatbelt through. I had to do it with Aly's seat a few times when we had to ride with other people. My favorite trick is to google the carseat model and the car, and then find the youtube videos that pop up. A little bit of watching them will give you a feel for what is legit, but it's a great way to SEE in action what they are talking about when you have read the instructions. And you can pop in to the carseat check-in place. Don't just go to any fire station though, they may not be certified for installations. The one by our house was not, but the EMS station across town was.

They are less than $50 and well worth the piece of mind knowing the car seat will be stationary in the event of an accident. we have all Britax Marathon 70 in all 4 cars that my kids ride in, which were professionally installed by a certified installer and then rechecked by another certified installer. All are installed with just the seatbelt except in my car, which is also tethered to the floor. In the trucks they have a rolled towel as part of the install for leveling. There is more to installing then what is in the Owners manual and every car varies to some degree. I am cheap in many ways, car seats are not one of those ways. It is just not worth it. We have had our for a few years now, but we got them online through diaper depot.com or something like that. Look online for different sales and invest in a couple. We do not move the seats around from vehicle to vehicle. We have one in every vehicle.

Our seat is front facing but the tether hooks behind in the cargo/third row area. I just googled online and that is the correct set up for our car and the type of seat we have.

Hey y'all, I am over it now. It seems that any time something like this happens they get tighter, which is fine. I was just pissed, I mean the trip was planned during C's off days from the very beginning. He heard half and went crazy, it had been a fun (hmm) filled week of his family in town and he kinda reverts back to "Old C" with them. He is a good father, he has a job, and there are no money worries right now. The remark about taking her alone was in jest, yanno hahahaah, they were always coming, the only thing is making sure we can get the car seat in our car, otherwise we will drive separetly. DH two sisters and their kids are down there, as is all his other nieces and nephews so it's just not the greats.
It will be fine, we will be on the beach and we will have fun.

Money tight for you or something? It seems weird to me you asked them to split your gas.

I think the issue was the way you said that since she didn't have LATCH and was using the seatbelt that she would just be using the carseat without a base....when there is no reason for her to not get a base put in her car

Yes, baby daddies, teen parents and all the associated drama are ghetto, but how exactly is that different than owning a store in the 'hood where the majority of the customers are on welfare and the second closest store is the Walmart where you fight with Latisha?
