What a bizarre idea? The only good I could see is any money being put into the Economy is good if the money isn't harming others or massively destroying the environment which a lot of money in that area is. Who thinks up these things?

Kind of like camping in a camper with satellite TV, warm showers, and a fridge.

Kind of like camping in a camper with satellite TV, warm showers, and a fridge. LOL, that was my first thought too I have neighbors that go "camping" every summer and spend a day loading crap in their RV. Umm, I don't think it can be called camping if you just take a miniaturized version of your house with you A decade or so ago, a bunch of yuppie hipsters in our area wanted to shed light on the plight of the homeless by spending on night on the streets...in a tent, thermos of coffee, portable TV/radio, and travel grill (so, basically, they were tailgating on a sidewalk). Maybe they could have actually done something for the homeless by just handing out some food and blankets to them?

At least they followed through with it. I recall an incident in college where some students, irritated at the plight of student housing, were going to spend a night sleeping on the quad in protest that they'd be "homeless". They never actually went through with it.

I don't really see the problem with the OP. It's a weird decor choice, but is it really any different than a hostel? If a "rich" guy stays in a hostel is he pretending to be poor? When poor people finally save up enough to take the kids to Disneyland they stay at the Motel 6 down the street, not a Disney property. So is anyone that could afford to stay at Disney but chooses to stay at the Motel 6 instead pretending to be poor and disgusting?
It's a goofy little hotel on a private game reserve. Yeah, it looks like a shanty town, but has all the amenities you'd want. So what? It's no different than those places that have little cabins made from old railroad cars, defunct planes, etc. It's a goofy look/experience to hook tourists.

I agree with Shaun of the Toys formerly Dark Honor.
There are camp grounds that offer basic housing of 4 walls and an outhouse. Or a teepee. Bring your own bed roll. No electricity, wood heat. A lot of families unplug from the electronics there.

I thought this was going to be about housing the homeless in motels...
