but just the thought of something happening to my little Sweetie Pie and the pain that would cause my daughter tells me that if someone did hurt her, I 'd be posting from a prison someone using earned internet privileges.
I was talking to my mom and she said "You'd skin us alive if we did that! And we'd deserve it".
They'd never dream of ignoring my wishes or the law because they think whatever it is silly.
I told DH I don't care if MIL wants to roll her eyes and mock behind my back but she better f-ing do what we say. I'm not putting my kid at risk because your mom is stuck in a time warp.

My kids are mutants. They're huge. I'm lucky I could get to 1 year with the rear facing seat. well I think now that have seats that rearface to 40 pounds so I can't imagine someone not being able to make it to one year (I had a 10 pound baby, he wasn't anywhere close to 40 pounds at a year). DD would have been 6 and still riding backwards.

DH jokes if the rules get any more stringent I'm going to find myself in a car seat.
We did see one that went up to 100 lbs. DH wanted to put me in the display to see if I fit.

Yeah, my kid is huge too, but she didn't hit 40 pounds until 2 years + 8 months (that's when we flipped her car seat around). She towers over all her friends so I'm pretty sure her size isn't my imagination. For our next kid I think I'm going to get a Diono (sp?) that used to be Sunshine Radian. They go up to 45 pounds RF and have slightly more height room…in case I end up with another giant.

Being really funny here, but I walk away and let mommy and daddy buckle her in her car seat cos it's a pain in the ass and even they say it. It is so tight (as it should be) and my hands don't work that well. I have bonked her with buckle, you would think a baby that has no control over her arms it would be easy to get her in but it isn't. You have to lift her up to get one buckle, then lift her other side up to get the other side buckle, all the while baby is grumbling cos I mean would you like to be manhandled like that. That is for the poster who said it was easy .... lol
And goshdarnit they leave the handle up and it takes me a few seconds after manhandling Scarlett to remember to push it back.

I am talking about getting her in the bloody thing and buckled up. I really have no chops for figuring out car seats. Dh can do it.

I didn't know of anyones kid getting killed or hurt in a car wreck
That was my MIL's rationale when we caught her driving Gwen around w/o a carseat. My comeback was let's not make the first one your grandkid. I don't give a shit how things worked in 1975. This is 2013 and the law says my kid needs to be in a car seat. Not only that *I* say my kid needs to be in a carseat and as the parent my rules will be respected. DH told her if we ever find out she drove her around again w/o a seat she will no longer be allowed to babysit. All visits will happen with us present. So sick of this rationale and the "back in my day" speech. Yeah well your days are gone, get over it and get with the program. I am several days late in responding to this back-in-the-day BS. As most of you know even my sons are older than many of you here, so I had babies back-in-the-day. The day before we were taking DS2 home (he was born in the US and thus in a hospital unlike DS1) his Pedi came in to make a pitch for using a carseat for DS2 (not mandatory for several more years) I looked at him like he had two heads (pedi's words on DS2 first check up) and said? What do you mean consider using a car seat. It took me quite a while to have him, so I want to keep him. He's not going anywhere without a carseat. So who in their right mind would take a baby nowadays anywhere wo a carsaet. It would have p****d me off over 30 years ago without laws, today it would not be pretty!!!
