Apparently the promised deliveries of UPS and FEDEX did not make for such a bright and cheery Christmas for those counting on it. I can see those little looky-loo who faces in the frosty window waiting and watching for their gift. Parents scramble for a back up gift and blame .

They did their best around here. One UPS driver I know worked every night until 11:30. Not sure how late he worked on Christmas Eve, since I didn't see him.
One of the issues they faced in the Boston area was bad weather and gridlocked traffic. That coupled with a larger than usual number of packages.
I've heard a lot of people complain about late deliveries. Personally I cut them some slack. They didn't intentionally hold up packages for the privilege of being bitched at by the public.

My guys are awesome. I have no complaints.
Most of my delivery is Amazon Prime... Not sure if that matters...

I wonder what is it about this year that brought about this snafu?

I wonder what is it about this year that brought about this snafu? Bad weather around the country during the last week or so stopped many shoppers from physically shopping and therefore, an increase above what was estimated in Internet shopping/purchasing and shipping?

Meanwhile millions of starving people living in filth got nothing for Christmas. Think the Pope is on to something..... How they would love to have these kinds of problems in their lives.
It kind of pisses me off- with all of the real problems people could be facing- like dealing with a dead girl on a ventilator today, instead of being thankful they are together with their family they are going to complain about some bullshit product no one needs that they ordered at the last minute is going to be a day or two late. Cry me a river.

I've got no complaints. It took me some time to find exactly the slippers I wanted for mother, whose feet swell pretty badly at times. I finally got them ordered over the weekend (I think it was Saturday, but may have been as late as Sunday). They arrived Tuesday night - yes, night. I know they were delivered after 8pm. That's going above and beyond, as far as I'm concerned and I was very thankful.

In many locations, FedEx offices were open today for customer pickup.

Happened to my boss; fedex never made the delivery: so was missing a few gifts for his daughter. The gifts my wife got me made it at 8;00 Christmas Eve which was a bit late for them. She got a guarantee from Macy's it would made it by the holidays (and paid extra for that). The gifts I sent my siblings and mom made it on Monday (I mailed it out on Friday).

"Happened to my boss; fedex never made the delivery: so was missing a few gifts for his daughter."
Same with the head boss where I work although it was one special gift that could not be purchased locally. Its been on and off the truck for at least four days as allegedly the drivers can't find the address.
I think besides the weather & related uptick in online shopping, temporary drivers who don't know the area don't deliver as quickly nor find everywhere they should.

DD spent 16 dollars extra to make sure her nephew got his gift on time. It didn't make it.

Why do people order so late? I mean the bad weather I guess I understand somewhat... But otherwise why wait till the last minute?
Did Thanksgiving being late cause a problem too?

For some unknown reason, the powers that be at UPS did not anticipate that they'd have a super heavy volume this year. We have pushed very hard at the post office to get you your packages. When I got back to the office Tuesday night, I saw a huge stack that UPS and other shippers had dropped off that afternoon. I felt sorry for the people who had ordered them for Christmas. There was nothing we could do.

still the absolute BEST time to have been working for these two companies because the pay they received to work and make deliveries must have been great and probably mandatory overtime too!

There was an article about it on Yahoo the other day. Some of it may have been caused by the promise of free delivery by X date. A lot of online companies made that promise.

I read an article different than the two links above. Perhaps on Yahoo? Skimming through all three it seems UPS, FedEX, and USPS Priority Mail all suffered similar issues. Without knowing the degree of screwup, i.e how many missed deadlines by how much sorted by volume and day in December its hard to judge who did the worst and who did the best because the articles and the companies haven't generated those numbers yet. I think FedEx and UPS are going to take a bigger perception hit than USPS Priority mail only because most people think of FedEx as the premium service often used by businesses, UPS the work-horse and middle tier, and since the post office mostly gets things from place to place guaranteed at lower cost prices not delivery time many are going to forgive them more for failing at something that is not their core compentency or the heart of their business. This is the core for FedEx, UPS, and even retailers such as Amazon. It will be interesting to see what adjustments will be made and whether some retailers will make cutoff dates for ordering for Christmas delivery earlier than this year. Turns out my boss did finally get her gift delivered to our facility on Christmas Eve afternoon.

I ordered something Monday afternoon from a company that always offers free shipping with no minimum purchase. UPS delivered my order Tuesday afternoon. It wasn't a Christmas gift, I would've been ok if delivery had taken a few days. I don't know if they have a warehouse near here or what, but I usually get my orders from them the next day. I didn't expect it this time since I placed the order 2 days before Christmas, but it happened anyway.

I got my stuff in time for Christmas so I have no complaints. If my gifts for my youngest didn't get here I would be pissed because she still believes in santA. Everyone else would have gotten a picture of what they were getting wrapped up!

Go to India or Haiti GVT1 and get to work since you feel so strongly. The need is great and workers are needed.
I have done my part in my hometown. I have more than done my part with family. --------- My neighbor ordered an item from a private person who lived 200 miles from here. The package went to Cleveland, OH, from his tracking info.
UPS delivered GrD Kindles to the neighbor. We only hope the neighbor is honest and let's them have them.
Anyhow, it's the day after. From the TV news, the undelivered package is worse than a alcohol hangover.
I do hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and plan a prosperous New Year.

I encountered multiple people today who were ticked at UPS. I do not blame the drivers or the local operations. I don't think it is ever okay to chew on a delivery person if it isn't their fault.

The same people pissed at UPS/FEDEX for this problem are the same assholes that get pissed at airlines when weather delays flights. It also reminds of the last time I flew on an airline...a lady in front of me in the security line was anxious because the line was so long and she only had twnety mintues until her flight boarded. I was tempted to ask why the hell she was so late getting to the airport. This was the first flight out, so it was 6:00 AM...its not like she was late from a connecting flight - she probably just figured there wouldn't be many people. Well, if you get to the airport late, you might miss the flight...and if you order a product late, and have it shipped during a time of the year when weather is unpredictable and can cause delays, then don't be surprised when shit doesn't show up at your door on time. Christmas is Dec 25th every year...I don't see how it can "sneak up" on people Plan ahead, maybe?

Personally, I have NO sympathy for people whose stuff did not arrive as scheduled. There is NO reason to wait for the last second and count on overnight delivery. The amount they probably saved was probably eaten up by the delivery charges
$h*t happens, especially weather, especially in the northern climates, especially in Dec.

Apparently there were people still waiting on packages that they ordered on Dec. 1st. I am still waiting on a package from the 12th... It wasn't a xmas present but something I get every month and usually arrives within 3-5 days. Not a big deal for me, but my dog is getting rather annoyed he hasn't seen his BarkBox yet Sent from my Nexus 4 using proboards
