My supervisor didn't act on my note and it turns out you can turn off your phone extension at this Macy's so I can't even leave her a message! (Tried at 5:55AM this morning and again just now.)
So give me your suggestions and especially all the reasons why I shouldn't say anything about my experience at Macy's & boss. I don't know if its because I was PT, but I never ever saw her on the selling floor in my department when I worked. I just figured out belatedly yesterday that she probably hangs out in Women's Shoes which is on a different floor than Men's Shoes and Men's Suits her other two departments.
I plan to leave her and HR a resignation letter probably Thursday after I work my FT shift at my real PT job. I gave a verbal to HR when I called out this morning at 5:30AM as the computer system wouldn't allow me to select callout on line. (Callouts are online or via phone.) Woke up sick enough with pink eye I know I can't do a FT shift so its probably better than working just the front end of the shift and having to leave early. Looks like the PT receptionist won't call out today so I can complete some critical stuff online etc. by end of day.
I'm resigning effective this morning. No printer at home and they aren't open Christmas Day so I can't drop it after work tomorrow.

I don't believe seasonal help needs to formally resign since the nature of the job is that you're only there for the season. (Edited to correct my typo)

I'd leave it brief and direct that your last day will be today.

I mostly agree, Beer. You certainly don't want to critique the experience, Optimist.
If you feel compelled to do this, just write something like "Thank you for the opportunity to work at Macy's during this holiday season. Because of the conflict with my permanent position, this is my last day."
They honestly don't care what you think about your experience and/or boss. I know no one likes to hear that, but they don't.

They honestly don't care what you think about your experience and/or boss. I know no one likes to hear that, but they don't. Just tell them you are not coming in and end it there. It is not a big deal. If it was just a part time temporary job to earn extra money, you don't even put it on your resume if you are looking for a job in a different field.

I agree with the others. It was part time, temporary, seasonal work in retail- which is not your regular field of employment. You already told HR that you won't be back. There is nothing more you need to do.

I'd keep it short and sweet.
DH had a brutally horrible job in food service a few years ago. He wrote out the whole "f-you" letter, then I went and deleted everything but a couple bare bone lines. At my food service jobs I would just notify people verbally; we were basically assessed as interchangeable cogs, formality wasn't a huge deal. The question for DH and I at departing was always assessing, "good review y/n?" and "if need be, can I get a job here again, y/n?"
Saying something is tempting, but it generally doesn't do any good in our observations, and from what I can tell just burns a bridge or makes it harder to fall back if it comes to it.

SS, good suggestions. HR said they'd like a letter but I'm not in the position really to do it today because it would need to be handwritten so I wouldn't have an exact copy unless I lucked out at caught an HR person willing to Xerox it for me. Library is closed today. So I'll just do something like SS suggested and say effective 12/24/13 5:30AM or some such as I will be dropping it off on 12/26, which is the last shift that got scheduled for me that conflicts with my regular PT job. Georgia, it was never going to appear on my resume ever, so non-issue. FWIW, my last 4 hour shift netted me a whole $13.31. The joys of seasonal Macy's commission working bad money hours.

It is a seasonal, retail job. You just don't go back!
Seriously, everything doesn't have to be a big production. I can assure you that if you send a long winded letter critiquing the company, it will wind up in the garbage.

Thanks for the comments. That's all I needed. No doesn't need to be a big production I just have been unhappy about the whole process starting with day after I accepted the job. I suppose a passive aggressive retail boss should have been expected, etc.
