You can also find them on overstock.com but I'm with Archie. Cremation for me.
I mentioned this in the Insurance thread but haven't seen any response but does anyone here prearrange?

How long does it take to get them delivered? Or do you just order one and have it sitting around in the garage for when you need it?

I've heard of some people using them as a coffee table. Of course, these were homemade and had flat lids. Think of the storage possibilities!

I think some Costco warehouses carry them. Bury me in one of those, and toss in some free samples.

I didn't prearrange, but my husband and I had joined the Consumer's Funeral Alliance in our area about a year before he died (three years ago next month). Through their contracted funeral home, I was able to get a low cost cremation. For myself, I'm still a member & have my youngest daughter on a savings account with enough money in it for her to pay airfare down here & the cremation expenses with a bit left over.

Maybe you could sleep in it. They look super-comfy. Although I don't know if you could order a snap-out lining so you could wash the sheets each week.
Oh, and you would never, ever get laid again.

I don't know about that. Abby, our favorite character on NCIS, might find it a turn-on.
Hey, maybe I could find one on CraigsList? Or maybe at least a nice urn for the ashes!

Fictional character - although you are correct - there is probably some weirdo out there that would embrace the freaky-deakiness of it.
I'm so grossed out right now.

You know, my aunt kept her husband's ashes in a jar inside a bowling ball bag in the top of her closet. I bet I could one of those on CraigsList . . . both the jar and the bag.

I wonder how comfortable they really are? I mean, it's not like someone is going to complain their back was killing them after the 3rd year.

You can not only buy a casket online, you can buy them and use them for furniture until you need it. I've seen pictures of them made into bookcases, wine storage and other items.

I'm going to be cremated, much to my sister's dismay. We are in such disagreement about it, that she is no longer in charge of what happens to me when I pass.

I have asked to have my body turned into a skeleton so I can be passed down through my family. How cool would it be to have great-grandpa's skeleton in the closet? If they want to save some money, they could just hang me out in the woods and let the birds pick the bones clean.

And you might be able to negotiate your wish. I dunno.

She wanted do this to eliminate her funeral expenses. We have all agreed that we have no problem with it an dit is spelled out in her will and medical POA forms.

My brother in law told us last weekend that when he dies he would like his body donated to the medical school. I told him to write it up in the world's cheapest will, because if something happens his mother will make all the decisions. I also suggested that if he wants to do a living will and name me or my husband as the decision maker, we would pull the plug. If he doesn't do that, and he gets hit by a bus and is a vegetable, his Mom will take him home and read him bible verses all day every day for eternity. He said "Hopefully I would really be a vegetable and I wouldn't know - but it sure would be terrible if I was aware enough to know." Rest assured, BIL, I'll pull the plug on you!

Maybe I'm missing something here...But how does hanging your skeleton out in the forest and allowing the birds to peck at it save your future great-grandchildren money?

I think it saves money now - and gives future generations a life-sized skeleton to learn biology. Plus, it is cool.

They would save money by having the critters clean my bones, instead of paying some lab rat to do it. In my sick way, I figure if future generations want my money, the least they could do is keep my skeleton hanging around to remind them of where it came from. It would be a better visual reference than a pile of ashes. Besides, I would be the hit at any Halloween party.

Seems to me it would cost a lot of money to have someone string your bones together so you could actually be a skeleton instead of a bag of bones. If you really want to be strung up in the woods for the birds, you might be able to make arrangements with the Body Farm. www.knoxvillebusiness.com/the-body-farm-and-beyond.html
