Last week I told my 5 yr old and 3.5 yr old that it's their sole responsibility to make sure that table is completely cleaned after each meal. Dishes brought to dishwasher or sink and it's wiped and dried.
Yesterday my 5 yr old informed me that it seems like he is doing ALL the work and it's time for his day off and he would like to take it on Saturday bc even Daddy has a day off then.
He also told me that if I don't give him a day off I need to be prepared that his work won't be as good as he will be very tired.
I don't know if I should start saving for his law school or my therapy......

Kids are so entertaining! Especially when they belong to someone else.

That's awesome.
My oldest would have tried to negotiate a day or two off with you. My oldest is so skilled at negotiating now, it's pretty funny. Most of the time we go along with it...
My youngest is so desperate to be like the other kids, that she clears her own spot after she eats. She will also only eat the the same brand of yogurt the other kids do at breakfast.
Yesterday's conversation went like this:
#3 "More yogurt."
Me getting out the greek yogurt "here you go."
#3 "noooo, no yogurt"
Me thinking WTH?
#3 "Yogurt...."
gets out the yoplait much to the delight of the toddler

But then I said that his brother would get two days off two and he would have to do all the work, he reconsidered.

You're nicer than I am. I've always told my son that school is his "job" . Just because you have a day off from your "job" doesn't mean you don't have responsibilities at the house. After all, that is what DH and I have to do.

Just wait. The arguing and deal-making just increases as they get older. My 11 year old is a master at it now.

But only if he was OK with you taking off a day from making food for them. Tell him he should OK it with Dad and the 3.5 year old, but you both can take the same day off because if there's no food to eat one day a week, there won't be any table clearing needed.

It wouldn't even work. He would totally make himself and his brothers meals. And then he would say that since he did all MY work, he needs a prize.
