Well the day is just about here - I'm going under the knife tomorrow to get the polyps removed. Since I can't eat or drink between midnight and after the procedure, I'm using a Fat Day today and eating whatever I want. It's a routine procedure, but I'm still nervous about being put under general anesthesia. I've gone under before but it's just a weird sensation being forced into unconsciousness. Plus my mom told me that I was mumbling a lot of gibberish as the anesthesia wore off, and I'm hoping I keep my mouth shut this time, lol! lucking my mom is coming up to help either watch DS or me Friday night/Saturday morning.

Good luck tomorrow.
I was put under for my knee surgery in August. I thought it was no big deal and I'd bounce right back. Be nice to yourself and take it slow for a little bit.

Maybe this will make you giggle:
When I was a kid, I thought 'local' anesthsia was stuff that they got from nearby and 'general' was the 'good stuff'!
Best of luck!

Good luck! From my experience, make sure someone is there when the Dr is talking to you after you wake up. I usually don't remember most of the first 30 mins after I wake up.

Yeah my surgeon quit doing a detailed summary of the procedure because of that. He has you bring the pictures to your one week followup and then he goes over everything he did and what he found.

Good luck!! General may be easier!! I went under local after breaking wrist but had eaten something about 30 minutes before fall. I was able to hear all the surgeon was saying the whole time - just couldn't respond. Made for an interesting 2 hrs of surgery

I've had a lot of anesthesia the last year. Only general anesthesia once in the last 5 surgeries (because I had an overwhelming infection and the anesthesiologist didnt want to add meningitis to my problems too). It got to the point where I had my favorite anesthesiologist, and knew who I did NOT want!
I'll take locals in a heartbeat. You wake up with a clearer head, rather than fuzz and the pain control is better.

Good luck MJ. The last time I had out patient surgery (2007) I woke up and couldn't stop laughing for about 10 minutes. The nurse said "well, this is new." Yeah, I am a total weirdo...

When I had my colonoscopy, there is an hour or so where I remember nothing but TD said that it appeared I was totally cognizant. I talked to the doc, got dressed, directed TD to my car and told him how to get to the hospital entrance. I directed him downtown, told him where to park and the first thing I remember is standing at the ticket office at the arena, choosing seats for a show. Strange thing is that I never had any memory blanks after any of my surgeries.

I've had general several times over the last year for my back. One of the last time, I remember vaguely thinking pancakes were a good idea, but apparently every two minutes I would say "Ooh! Let's go get some pancakes." Then nothing. Then 2 minutes later: "Oooh, pancakes sound good, let's go get pancakes!"
I was asleep by the time we got to the pancake house - DH went home and carried me to bed.

DH is driving me home from the hospital, and I am kinda nervous about me doing random drug-induced babbling. I have a lot going on that I haven't told him and I don't want to say anything that will result in an inquisition later.

Maybe it's better to get it off your chest while you're drugged. Then you can say it must have been a dream.

Then tell him beforehand that afterward you want to curl up in the back seat and listen to music pretty loud.

When my sis had to have surgery done we got her home and I took her to her room to put her in bed. She kept trying to put her PJ bottoms on her head and got angry with me when I suggested she try starting from the botton.
After she slept and woke up she didn't remember any of it, knew I should have laughed my ass off!

Whatever he mentions that you said, just have that shocked look on your face as you laugh hysterically. There's no way that anything you say can be believable.

That's the thing about anesthesia, people's personality sometimes changes, etc. I would hate to start ranting and raving at the staff when I "wasn't myself", as I have heard can happen. I was under once and my wife said that I was so soft and sweet...phew! (relief!) And for crying out loud!, what might I say when under like that?!? scary!
Best wishes to you for speedy recovery and all.

Good luck!
When I had emergency surgery & came out of it, I apparently kicked my kiddo out of the room & demanded to see one of my brothers. (I had NO clue I did this). My brother came in & said that I looked like death & I just stared at him & never said a word. He finally said "you REALLY didn't want to make cookies with gramma did you?" He said I just blinked & nodded a lot. (I was supposed to make cookies with gramma on the day I had surgery).
I had no idea any of this happened until about 2 weeks later. Kiddo was mad about something & he threw it out there that I had kicked him out for my brother. I'm STILL apologizing for that one. LOL
