5 cents worth of electricity. This couldn't have been resolved much easier?
A Georgia man found himself in handcuffs after charging his electric car outside a middle school where his son was playing tennis in what police alleged was unlawful “theft” of county power worth roughly five cents.
Kaveh Kamooneh, of Decatur, said he was attending a Saturday morning tennis practice session for his 11-year-old son on Nov. 2 when he plugged in his electric car at a power outlet outside Chamblee Middle School.
Kamooneh, 50, said he was alarmed when, soon after, he saw a police officer inspecting his Nissan LEAF.
According to a report from the Chamblee Police Department, an officer responded.......

Really, it isn't like he is some intercity woman fudging on the numbers on her welfare application or a corporate executive fudging on tax credits. He is just some guy charging his car on the taxpayer's nickel.

You'd figure he would have just done the lefty handshake and the town would have let him go on the spot.

...who said he charged his car for roughly 20 minutes. (from link in the OP) Think this was the only time that he had plugged in to that particular outlet?

Huh?
So this guy feels it isn't theft to take my lawn furniture because I wasn't home for him to ask if he could take my lawn furniture.

Must be some small town asshole cops- they sure act like it. A misdemeanor citation would have been sufficient- no reason to arrest the guy. Wonder if they would have arrested some kid if it was a radio plugged in? Assholes.

This is one of those great "little bit of information" stories. Why did the guy need to be charging the car? Was it standard routine for him to plug it in each Saturday morning while the kid was at practice?

I only read the story to confirm I was right. Theft is theft. Like when the college student was actually arrested for taking ice, at college, after asking for a cup of ice, and was given to him. He didn't know he had to pay for the ice! I guess some people just want to stick to the rules?
At work we have a gas pump for company vehicles only! I actually had one manager ask me if I think he would get into trouble if he were to get gas, when we were going through the gas shortage from Hurricane Sandy.
the point of this story to me is - if the school allows this one guy to get away with it, more will come!
