For tonight, I need to get 2 chapters worth of accounting homework done, and buy a card for DH's birthday tomorrow. We're hosting Thanksgiving Thursday, and the house is a disaster. DH works Friday, but kids are home with me all day, so I won't get much done. Monday, I have a presentation and an exam, and a week from Wednesday there's a big assignment due. A week from Friday, a research paper is due, as well as more accounting homework. ...and I just want to take a nap! How do I get a propeller in my butt?

I usually deal with weeks like that by actually taking a nap. So I'm not much help...

That is how I'm feeling too. Which is terrible since every time I close this page I just reopen it... I really need to deal with my deeper issue of wanting/trying to run away from things I worry will be unpleasant.
But the advice I'm giving myself: Caffeine, list out work and personal tasks, delegate everything possible!, and then just buckle down and start crossing off the list.
Good luck!

Ever since we changed the clocks and it started getting dark at 6 here, Ive been in a funky mood. Its also freezing, which is unusual for Texas, so I have even less interest in going out and getting anything done. I dont even have a turkey yet for Tgiving lol. We are doing it Friday because DH doesnt get home till late Thursday night, but I think I am rapidly running out of time.

You need a list! And put the kids to work (assuming they are old enough to be more of a help than a hazard). Take advantage of DH every second he is home. The kids are his while you do your homework tonight and do whatever you can for Thanksgiving. If you still need to shop, go tonight, get the card while you are out. If DH whines about it, remind him that these little darlings are the fruit of his loins, too. Tomorrow, if you are off, is your big push. Kids get video games and their butts glued to their chairs (if they are home). If they still have school, that's even better. The house does not need to be perfect, just navigable. And the lights should be dim - we called it "mood lighting" back in the day. And for next week - that's what you have the weekend for. Your heart belongs to accounting, and the kids belong to daddy.

When I have a million things to do, I try to figure out what I can do in 15 minutes, and make lists based on that.
I know in 15 minutes, I can get a bathroom cleaned. Or, I can vacuum the stairs and the public spaces on the 2nd floor. This helps me stay really motivated.
I save the bigger tasks (that I know will also get dirty the quickest) for the end. So, when we had people over last week, the very last thing that got cleaned was the kitchen.
I'd also engage the kids. When we had people over last weekend, the Thursday and Friday before they each had to help me for 15-30 minutes. My oldest agreed to go above and beyond without me asking, and well, he's getting a reward.
So, anyway, I'll alternate between a sitting task (like for me work or working on volunteer commitments, for you, school) and a moving task. Eventually it all gets done.
I also look at high impact sorts of cleaning. I usually opt for making sure you can't write "dust me" in the furniture over a little contained clutter.
Also lots of coffee and music works too..

I like to multitask so do each thing for one or two minutes because I get bored too easy. I like to start with the hardest things first or the most time consuming or most urgent or all of them. So I would start with the accounting home work, run to the store, throw laundry in the basement, homework again, put laundry in the washer, make jello, homework, put laundry in the dryer, get a snack, do homework, take laundry out of the dryer, make tea, empty dishwasher while tea water comes to a boil, do homework, load dishwasher, do homework, take laundry out of the dryer, get more tea, start dishwasher, do homework, make list of food to cook, clean off kitchen table and set out food to cook like cans and boxes so they are handy each recipe in a different pile, back to homework.

Can you break up tasks into chunks and alternate mental tasks with physical tasks? Say, do one half of your homework assignment, then get up and go clean the bathroom. That will give your brain a break while your body moves and you get another task accomplished. By the time you are done your brain will feel refreshed and you can tackle the other part of your homework.

Well, you can start by getting off the internet You are absolutely right! Thanks for the tips, everyone. I have 1 chapter's HW done, got a little cleaning done and load of laundry going. That is making me feel a little better. (BTW, my kids are 1 and 3.5, so the most help they can give me is to not tear the house apart when they're home!) Now, I'm going to try really hard not to just copy the answers for the 2nd chapter's HW. Then, I'll get a card for DH and stop in and check on my mom, then I'll head to school. Maybe clean up a few things here and there in between.

Decorate your mess. Bring leaves from outside, throw them around, put pretty ones on the table and even on top of the turkey! I don't know what else you have outside...just make it fallish. You will have plenty to clean after...why waste time before?

Oh, that's not mine! It was a Tloony-ism! Thanks for admitting plagiatry. The word is plagiarism, and she didn't. She credited you with the expression. Had she just used it without mentioning your name, it would have been a bad thing. Plagiatry sounds like some kind of math course, like algebra or geometry. I can hear some kid telling Mom, "Hey, guess what? I got a B+ in Plagiatry!" It also sounds like some kind of cool new disease: "I'm sorry sir, we'll have to amputate that foot, due to the advanced case of plagiatry you've contracted."

And, my one year old likes to stick leaves in his mouth.

He does like to help with the laundry, but mostly gets in the way. I still let him help though.

It takes me about 15 minutes just to get my brain wrapped around it when I'm starting out.

Well, I got about 1/2 by homework done for class. The prof gave me 4 points out of 5, so I'm happy with it. I have points to spare anyway. Glad I'm done with that for a while! I did not get started on the presentation like I had planned, but cleaned the house a little. Got the Bday card and stopped at my mom's. Maybe I'll do some thank you notes tonight from DS2's birthday. Sending them out almost 2 months after the fact, but I figure it's better than a lot of weddings I've been to lately.

Ok, I made it through everything else unscathed, but I still need to finish the remaining 3/4 of my research paper. Someone kick me off of here--please!
