www.today.com/travel/cellphone-use-during-flights-id-rather-have-snakes-plane-2D11641667Mere weeks after the FAA relaxed rules to allow the use of personal electronic devices during all phases of flight -- a running list of which airlines are allowing gate-to-gate use is here -- the FCC is getting in on the cellphone plane party and considering letting passengers talk and text across the whole country. I agree it would be a horrible idea. I would feel bad for the Air Line Attendants and customer service staff. most people are usually nice and understanding - however I am very sure their will be that 3 or 12 people that will be the perfect example of why this is a bad idea. Survey of Air Line Staff and Frequent Flyers Bad Idea - 96% Good Idea - 04%

"One flight attendant union has already come out against any change, saying that a plane full of chattering passengers could lead to arguments and undermine safety." "Everybody wants the ability to stay connected while traveling, but nobody wants to be trapped next to some guy yapping away during the entire trip from New York to Las Vegas." "Having the ability to communicate with my office, my family and my friends, especially for making necessary plans for airport pickups and meetings on the day of arrival, is invaluable," he said. "Of course, the downside is with the inconsiderate flier who is oblivious to how loud he or she is talking. That is what will drive us crazy." however coming from someone who does not have friends and is responsible enough to coordinate with the office before landing, and not so close to family that I just can't wait to land before contacting family - there are no calls that I need to make! also feel that do like you have to now. make arrangements when just about everybody says I'll call you when I land!

I really don't want to hear the complete conversations of what I hear snippets of while walking down the street. If people would be courteous about it then maybe OK. If not, then I agree with Tennesseer ........ goodbye Granma and anyone else that is too loud.
Laptops maybe OK ....... phones? Nah. It's good to get away for a while.

I have heard rather disturbing cell phone conversations by people who don't seem to realize how loud they are. Text, people! TEXT your TMI! I don't want to hear the results of your STD test, and neither does the plane load of people. Phones on planes would be okay if people would just text, I think. Of course, I am the person who gives the phone to my kids to text Grandma.

It is one thing to be sitting on a park bench and someone else sits on the same bench and begins a loud cell phone conversation. You have the choice of remaining on the same bench or getting up and moving to another.
Airlines have cut back of the number of daily flights to save money. Therefore, more flights take off at full passenger capacity. Passengers no longer have the option of moving to another seat to escape boorish passengers sitting just several inches away and are speaking long and loudly on their cell phone..
If you must use your cell phone, make it very short. Your seat mate(s) will appreciate your courtesy.

Oh. Please. No. We only fly for distances that are totally impractical to do any other way. No way to I want to listen to someone yapping all the way to the West Coast or London

Personal phone calls are just that- personal. aka PRIVATE. I don't even have cell conversations at work unless I'm alone, so I'm sure as hell not going to have one on a plane!
I avoid calls in favor of texting whenever possible, actually.

Please no. I do not want to hear you on the phone. Maybe a nice chat to pass the time but your phone call to the massage parlor - no.
A quick call to the person picking me up that I will be early or late or lay over. Yes.

The last thing I want, is to be trapped in a large metal tube a few thousand feet above the ground with 100 or so other people - and have everyone around me yapping on cells - some loudly.
I was under the impression that cellphones on planes interfered with frequencies for gauges in the cockpit. Cellphones can also be used to trigger incendiary devices. What's to stop a suicide bomber from having something explosive smuggled onto the plane in luggage, and then sitting in the cargo-hold - then using their cell to activate it?
They interviewed some pilots/flight attendants here on the news a few days ago. All are 100% against this move being implemented.
Some simply because of the annoyance they'll cause for other passengers (and themselves), but also for the safety reasons.
