For any who remember my threads, I thought I'd provide some information on how things are working out. First, on trading in a car for more than the purchase price of the car I wanted to buy: No. Total rip-off. I ended up selling mine on CL. I was really pleasantly surprised it sold in about 4 days. A guy flew in from 3 states away to buy it sight unseen. Apparently, it's a hard to find model-who knew? I came down $1000 off my asking price, but I'd asked for more in the first place, so I came away with exactly what I wanted. Met him at the bank, got the cashier's check, and instantly deposited, so no chance of a scam. And anyway, that was 3 weeks ago, so I'm feeling confident it's a done deal with no chance of coming back on me somehow. Then I went to a dealership and got the car I wanted. So that went well. Next, on getting back into the workforce after being a SAHM for nearly 20 years: Another poster had said something about their DH I think having a 3-step plan. Get any job, then get an industry-related job, then get the job they really want. I've accomplished step 1. I was really hoping to combine steps 1 and 2 with an internship, but there aren't a lot of them available this time of year in my area. Mostly in the summer, and mostly full time. I know many people can and did go to school full time while working full time, but after being at home so long, I'm not one of them. Yet, anyway. Also, if you may recall, I'm on disability, and going back to work has to be done the "right" way. So this will work for now. On the divorce: still ongoing but almost done. I've moved back to my home state. Kids stayed with STBX to finish high school. That situation is a mess, but I'll leave that for another thread. I'm not getting what I wanted, financially speaking, in the divorce settlement. I made the mistake of feeling sorry for him, especially with the kids staying there. But I can live with it, and it should be enough to get me back on my feet and through my schooling. The good news is my credit is still intact, so he didn't manage to trash that. Thanks for reading, and hopefully soon I'll have an update on my next goal: GO ON A DATE!!! Lol.

When I was divorced my STBX's attorney said that in a "good" divorce settlement, each side walks out thinking they could have done a little better. It's always good to be able to hold your head up high knowing you left your Ex in a decent place financially instead of fighting for every dime you could get (and running up attorney fees in the process). Congratulations on getting into Step 1 of transitioning back into the workforce. That's a big hurdle- will give you the track record of showing up on time, learning new things, etc. that will give some reassurance to employers in your field when you get to the next step. Keep us posted!

Good for you! It must be hard to be away from your kids. I hope you get some good and well deserved "me" time in.

That's a great thought process - I hadn't heard it before. I guess it's my plan, too.
Excellent work on your goals!

I had not heard that we are losing posters. Who is a head of housekeeping here? Who is supposed to be responsible that every poster is put back after each...post?
