I heard you can get tax transcripts at the local IRS office. This would be faster than waiting for it to come in the mail. Is it the same transcript that you would get in the mail? What do you need to bring with you (forms of ID?) to get the transcript at the local office? Thanks for any info

You heard correct. One can go to a taxpayer assistance center (TAC) and request this data in person. Per the IRS website (irs.gov) you need to: "Please be advised that you may be asked to provide valid photo identification and a Taxpayer Identification Number, such as a Social Security Number, to receive services" If you are asking for your transcript you need to appear. If you are asking for the transcript of another you need to have a proper power of attorney or have them present with you. To find the closest TAC click this link www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1

NOTE: Not all IRS offices have Taxpayer Service Representatives that will pull up a transcript for you. Call the office you want to visit and determine if they have said representatives. Some offices have representatives on certain days of the week. Call ahead.
