So my DH and I moved this past weekend (local, in-town). I got a Living Social voucher for 2 hours of moving services, but made the mistake of not checking their reviews on Yelp or similar. I scheduled the move a month in advance, and got a confirmation e-mail. Moving time comes and they don't show up. I leave multiple voicemail messages (they never once answered their phone) as well as e-mails, and nothing.
This of course throws off our whole schedule, as we really needed things moved on Saturday. As time goes by I'm getting increasingly more irate. Only then did I check Yelp and see that this apparently is this company's MO, i.e. they're a scam. I checked for local companies with good reviews, and got voicemails for the first two (it was a Saturday after all). I called a third and they actually answered and even had an available truck that could come in half an hour! They did an amazing job, and we were only delayed by a couple hours. I contacted Living Social and all they could give me was a refund in dealbucks, which is better than nothing but still a little disappointing.
Moral of the story, don't assume Living Social, Groupon, etc vets the companies they offer deals for and do your own research.

I've found there's usually a reason the companies have to offer deals...
If they are good/busy they don't need to discount their products/services.
Of course there are exceptions but I always Yelp a company first.

I bought 2 groupons for 2 people to clean my house and my Mother's house 3x. Then we could not get them to honor the deal/call us back. I complained to Groupon, the BBB and notified my CC that I was disputing the charges. I got a full refund - not a credit for future use. It would have been way to big for me to every spend. I won't do carpet cleaning on a coupon/groupon either, but restaurants offering groupons in their off times are fine with me. I know a few of our favorite restaurants offer groupons/living soical deals. I just have to make sure that the times you can use them are not too restrictive.

very glad it turned out good on your move.
first time I used movers before looking into the company first. my movers did show up, but they dragged their asses on the move out of the apartment, taking up time, dropped furniture when they got outside, and some furniture fell off the dolly cart rolly things, broke one lamp, I was tossing my shit into large leaf bags, then they tell me they only move boxes and didn't let me put the bags on their truck, they told me ok that's all they are taking - leaving a bunch of small packed boxes, exercise equipment, rugs and of course all my bags! the unload, they demanded a tip, demanded pay in cash (though I made sure credit card was ok to use before they came out), and days later as pretty much everything was unpacked, we noticed a few items were missing?
not sure what I am going to do when move time comes up next year?
