I'm sorry......I sat thru a bunch of BS lane closures on I-95 last night at the top of 95/128 that weren't at all necessary at that hour for what was actually being done, I feel your pain. I hope y'all make it home okay tonight. not sure where you are right now, but pull up the GPS on your phone (if you aren't driving!) and look at I-84 and the Merritt Parkway as alternatives. you arent' that far east of me to get home, my regular preferred routes out of CT are I-84 (to the Pike in Sturbridge) or I-395 (to 290/the Pike in Auburn/Worcester). don't get stuck, please. I'll be online for a little while more, please post back if you're stuck. I'll pull up traffic posts!

Thanks, Chiver. I just called DH and told him not to wait up. He said the same thing about the Merritt to 84. Driving north, we usually do 95 to 91 to 84 to the Pike. Just passed the construction site. No need to close 2 lanes. Jerks.
It just opened up. Leaving Stamford now. Not crazy about the Merritt at this hour because of the deer. I'll probably stay on 95.
Stupid road workers...

I hate I-95 in general, but really, really hate I-95 in CT! There are always long backups, usually for no apparent reason!

I used to wonder why there were multiple accidents on that highway on a daily basis (in addition to somewhere on the CT to NY having 'construction closure'). Didn't ever see that where I moved. Maybe now due to # of idiots texting while driving, but it took 20 years to catch up to CT/NY

I suppose that's the nature of the beast though. hope the rest of your trip's been painless.....my patience for unnecessary traffic is slim, considering my commute lately.

I much prefer the Merrit....but if there's an accident, you're totally screwed. Two lanes and long distances between exits.
I have not found a place in the US where I like 95. Anywhere. It's just an awful, awful road.

I got home last night at 1:15 a.m. this morning. A 6.5 hour drive became a 9.25 hour marathon.
I've decided to blame Archie for the Connecticut traffic. He probably got into another one of his fender benders and started the whole mess.

Hey, I live in CT too! Maybe your delay had something to do with my irrepressible need to answer texts and e-mails while on the road . It may be something important; the car behind can wait.

You could always blame patiencetried for all that nasty traffic. I think he lives up that way, too.

I-95 is never fun not matter what state it's in. For the Maryland part on southbound headed to the DC beltway they've had multiple wrecks in the last couple months by 6am that required medevac. It's crazy.
I-81 is my own personal demon for adding unnecessary hours onto my trip. I swear it is impossible for me to have a good, incident free road trip on that damn road.

AND I was NOT on the road at that time yesterday. I was home... making baked stuffed pork chops with baked sweet potatoes and fresh green beans. Home-made orange chiffon cake for dessert. No food stamp program money was expended on our dinner. After dinner, I sorted all my recyclables and brought them out to the curb with the trash, as Monday is trash collection day in my neighborhood (they come by around 5 AM). As for the traffic mess, it was probably exacerbated by out-of-state drivers tweeting each other stoopid remarks like "food stamp program to be cut lol".

Mmmmm! Dinner sounds delish! That's what all the traffic was! It WAS your fault, patience! All those folks were trying to get to your house for some of that awesome meal!

You need to post your recipes in the recipe section, it sounds delish.

No - EEers care more about what's between your legs. And we only care about your brains during this game. Braaiiiins! Oops. Those weren't brains! More like walnuts?

Back to the traffic tie-ups on I-95. They're always working on the road somewhere, the roads need constant maintainance, and the I-95 "NorthEast Corridor" carries a heavy traffic load, often more traffic than it was originally designed to carry. Still, when traffic is down to one-lane and there aren't any personnel at the "work site"... you have to wonder. But use your imagination... imagine some government agency was interested in apprehending a "fugitive" who is expected to travel a certain route. But they don't want any publicity, they want no visible presence, they want it all done quietly. If they create a "chokepoint" through which every car must slow to pass, using video surveillance they can monitor every car for make and license number and occupancy... then pick up their target for "speeding" a few miles further down the road. With no-one the wiser.

GRG a/k/a goldenrulegirl - while all that traffic delay you experienced was a pain in the ass, it was nothing compared to traffic delays back in 1983 when a 100 foot northbound section of the I-95 Mianus River bridge in Greenwich, Ct collapsed and fell 100 feet into the river below. Several people died when they were either on the section that fell or drove off the interstate and right into the abyss. Fortunately the collapse happened late at night so casualities were few. There was no I-95 in that area for at least six months until a temporary fix to the bridge was completed. All the commuter and commercial traffic (north and south) was rerouted off the interstate and onto Greenwich side streets for months. It wasn't pretty.

if you were in Enfield, that was I-91. I-95 comes in from RI and follows the south coast. but the memories of construction sound familiar. I don't remember before Boston's "Big Dig" and can say that the highway exit we took to get back to campus from the South Shore was in a different place every weekend for almost a year when they were working in that particular area of I-93.

And within a few years of 95 being opened we moved to NJ so the trips up 95 continued.

It was the first time I had ever heard of "Cos Cob". I was a year out of college and spending weekends traveling to visit friends in NYC and its environs. And, Greenwich doesn't seem to have suffered from it all that much. If anything, it has prospered even more. Truth be told, I think of the collapse every time I drive that stretch.

My mom worked in Hartford so I thought she said she took 84 to work. My dad worked in Springfield. I have no idea what road he took. I just remember being in the way in the of a Ford country squire station wagon stuck in traffic on I 95 heading to grandma's house. I swear we were always tuck in traffic on that road. It is nice to know that it was probably real and not just a dream.
