I've got a reclining sofa, a fridge full of wine and beer, the Halloween candy, and internet. There is also a bed, and it's cool and dark down here. I want to spend the night down here. I don't want to be around my family, everyone is pissing me off.
I've just had it with my 14 year old, and SO is irritating the hell out of me. Ok, the time of the month may have a bit to do with it. But that is so cliché... Maybe I am oversensitive tonight/ They just seem to be always teasing and joking, and the 14 year old has something "smart" to say about everything. (She is grounded for that, the obnoxious teen talk is a bad habit I can't take for the next 4 years).
Should I spend the night alone or suck it up and go back upstairs?

Is your chocolate finished? Your beer? Your wine? If you answered no on any of these questions, stay until the answer is a resounding yes. Then, and only then, go upstairs and order pizza for yourself (let the others just watch you eat it)

**Captain pats empty seat on the couch next to her** - no sweetie, you do not have to put up with annoyances.
I'll grab the glasses and corkscrew (and another bottle of wine) and we can bitch about our families together...
(then laugh about it when we're done PMS'ing - I tell my family it's the one time of the month I don't have the patience to put up with their bullshit)

I can go for another glass of wine, and chocolate...By then maybe everyone will have figured out to just not say anything to me for the rest of the night, besides a kiss goodnight!

Feeling much more chill, now that my family has given me 20 minutes of peace. Ready to get to bed myself and call it a night! Back upstairs I go, as long as no one says anything!

Good for you for setting your boundaries and letting them know WHY! Taking and making time for youself is SO important as a spouse and a mom. If you don't take it, no one will give it to you. They just keep expecting more. I made that a priority when my kids were home because without it I would have snapped years ago.
Hope all is better today!
