usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/16/20994105-florida-man-sets-self-on-fire-while-setting-up-burning-cross-display?lite A Florida man suffered second-degree burns after police said he set himself on fire putting up a Halloween display that involved lighting a wooden cross on fire. Ron Nielson, 50, was setting up the display with his wife outside their Palm Bay-area home Tuesday. Neighbors told police Nielson was creating a circle of candles with a wooden cross in the middle when he accidentally lit himself on fire, according to Yvonne Martinez, a spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department. Is there any good reason to light a cross on fire that I am unaware of? Or better- any reason to use freaking gasoline to do it?

Here's something more for your FL collection. Kind a funny when you think about it. What retail establishment wouldn't vacuum up ashes within a day or so?
usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/17/21001865-man-sprinkled-fiancees-ashes-at-lenscrafters-florida-mall-evacuated-cops
No charges will be filed against a grieving man who sprinkled some of his dead fiancee's ashes in an eyewear store, causing a Florida mall to be evacuated and shut down for two hours.
Sarasota Police said a man on Tuesday sprinkled some of the ashes in places that were special to the couple. Officials said the woman had a connection to LensCrafters in the Westfield Southgate Mall and because of that, the man released some of the ashes there on Tuesday.
The incident occurred just before noon on Tuesday, when the man threw what was then an unknown substance into the store before fleeing the area, according to police.

Was this guy wearing a flammable long white robe and hood? I don't see any Halloween connection with lit candles and a burning cross.

At least it did not involve a judge and jury, or a police officer in Florida!

Lighter fluid I could understand. Darwin is all over this. All hallows eve is the day before all saints day if I'm remembering my cult stuff correctly. Decorating for Halloween does include themes of destroying cult symbols and artifacts, but not as much more recently due to the onset and popularity of political correctness. Death and suffering themes are still popular along with cute stuff for the younger kids. Gasoline doesn't burn at all, only the vapor coming off it does. If more people knew this there would be far less accidents with it. Education, there is no substitute.

Well thanks professor- I had no idea how gas burned
So what are you saying- he was burning a cross because it is a cult symbol- which is true I guess?
Death and suffering- not so much since the obvious person to suffer on a cross was not lit on fire and neither was it a customary practice.
Maybe it wasn't a cross and just a lower case t- symbolizing 'time to leave'

www.southparkstudios.com/clips/153104/lower-case-t-burning Since the the man seems to have exited the turnip truck more recently (in the usual downward motion)one can't really fault him on a combustion error using a fuel with an evaporative pressure temperature well below the ambient temperature at the time of use. The rest of the details on that story seem to be mere speculative hyperbole.
