I went to a mini-conference on Friday and had a researcher come up to me and grill me for about 30 minutes on my poster. At the end he asked what I was planning to do after my Master's. When I let him know I was applying for other PhD programs because my boss does not have funding for me, he said he had funding and was interested in taking me as a PhD student. However, he is not a Neuro faculty. I sat down with my program director today and found out that he may be able to join as an adjunct, if he agrees to certain things. And, I found out that I am eligible to move to a PhD program from the Master's. I sent an email to the researcher and hopefully it will work. However, my husband finishes his PhD in May, so he needs a post-doc and it can't be here. Rochester is less than an hour away so my DH looked there and found a couple people he liked. The chair of another program (pharm/tox), likes both my husband and myself and she knows everyone. This morning I ran into her and told her about what happened. She said she would make some calls and DH is to let her know the short list of who he likes at Rochester. Everything is coming together....so where is the fucking shoe and where is it going to drop? Oh and to make this money related, it will almost double our income if I get into the PhD program here.

Good luck gin! That would be a rare unicorn if you and your DH can get into PhD programs at the same place.

DH is already in his PhD, and since I am in the Master's it is not too big of a deal but he graduates from his PhD this may, so he needs a Post-doc fellowship near by if I stay in Buffalo. Wish me luck, I have a meeting with the PI tomorrow! Good luck gin! That would be a rare unicorn if you and your DH can get into PhD programs at the same place.

I'm a bean counter so most of what you said went over my head, but it sounds like great news!
Good luck!

First interview went really well, met with the PI and the postdoc. The PI wants me to met with the lab manager and he will speak to my program coordinator and we will meet back in two weeks to decide. I think this is going to WORK!

Went to the second interview with the lab manager, and she liked me. Her only concern is that since they don't work in the neuronal system that I would be on my own for my project but she is willing to try me out and see. She wants a copy of my CV so I need to update it and email it to her by Monday (great, extra work ). So it looks like the PI will call the program director and if they agree I'll the PhD spot.
