It sounded like she had a lot of really bad problems.

I promised her I'd put in an update if somebody inquired. I'll post it here and then append this thread to the appeal thread tomorrow, assuming you've responded by then.
The money is still sitting in the account. I'm not quite sure where to begin. Suffice it to say that the problem is extremely complicated--to the point where two dentists we thought were "on board" have jumped ship, first upping their quoted prices by large margins, then plainly admitting they couldn't handle the surgery and didn't want the liability.
We still have one on board, Dr. Welebir, who is willing to take care of the oral surgery component for somewhere around $8,000.00, depending on what's included. However dentures are also required, with at least two implants for the mandible since Diamonds has insufficient bone left (although a sixth dentist, who also eventually jumped ship, claimed that the bone was fine). Dr. Welebir is not able to do the dentures, and the surgery cannot proceed without first getting impressions so that dentures can be made.
Dr. Webberson, a member of the UNLV faculty, was supposed to see Diamonds this past Monday so that she could coordinate him and Dr. Welebir, letting Webberson handle the impressions and dentures, and Dr. Welebir handle the oral surgery. Dr. Webberson had originally stated he could do the work for $6K, which subsequently went up to $8K, then $11K. This past Monday he admitted to Diamonds that he couldn't do the work, and that he's just left the UNLV faculty anyway, very kindly hanging her out to dry. He did suggest another dentist with some experience. When last I spoke to Diamonds, she was waiting on Dr. Webberson's secretary to get back to her with promised info on this new contact.
Whoever it turns out to be (and given how much faith I have in the state of Nevada, I wouldn't be surprised at this point if it was a blind chimp), he or she will either have to do everything him/herself or collaborate with Dr. Welebir.
Diamonds is not doing well. Her health problems have all but completely incapacitated her. She gets out of her house once a week on Monday with the assistance of a senior companion who is able to drive her around and escort her to an endless row of appointments. She lives life day to day. I believe she can access e-mail on Mondays, hence if anyone wants to get in contact with her that way, I have no doubt she'd be delighted to hear from anyone here. She's still buoyed by the compassion people showed in the appeal. Just send me a PM.

I think that it might be good for someone to call other dental schools in bigger metropolitan areas, and see if an evaluation can be arranged there. We have two dental schools in my state which I'm sure could handle her case, but it's too far. What about dentists/dental schools in California ?

I saw on the TV show The Doctors where they took a woman's case where her teeth were disintegrating. Maybe they could offer some help and advice.
I know diamonds is in a better place being in the U.S. with it's social safety net. It sounds like the senior companion can be helpful to her.

We have two dental schools in my state which I'm sure could handle her case, but it's too far. What about dentists/dental schools in California ? Unfortunately, it's not that easy. I would not suggest CA if she was going to go to another metro area for treatment, but probably TX instead as the living costs are cheaper and there are at least 4 dental schools in the state. Getting a local hotel in San Antonio, Houston or Dallas is going to be much less than in either LA or SF. I still have contacts in San Antonio or Houston, if she wants to consider this option. However, Diamond's problems are not going to be solved by a single visit to a dentist, or even a few. It sounds like her treatment is going to go on over a period of months AND it sounds like she needs to be under simultaneous care of her physician as her physical health is rather precarious. I think that this is the sticking point, that her health is not well enough for many dentists to want to take the risk....which is understandable.

It's essentially impossible for Diamonds to travel *anywhere*. She has no car. She isn't in good enough health to travel anywhere distant anyway and she has no means to do so other than bus or cab. Then there would be hotel/motel costs while she's wherever, etc. It's simply not feasible.
And while you would THINK she's better off here, I'm often not so sure. At the very least, Nevada isn't the place for her. She makes call after call after call and no one will lift a finger to help. It's very frustrating to feel like no one gives a damn.
