I don't really think Costco when I think of a product like this, but there you go. This is sort of money-related, but it's more of a consumer interest story. OK, fine. It's about booze. Happy now? (KPNX) A rare scotch with a hefty price tag has hit the shelves at some Costco stores. It's called Macallan, 60 year Scotch Lalique Crystal and it's priced just under $17,000. The only bottle in Arizona is for sale at a Costco in Scottsdale. Only 400 bottles were made and there are only 72 for sale in the United States. Just in case you're wondering, at $17,000 a bottle, one shot of this stuff runs about $1,000. It's pretty. I'm not sharing mine.

Seriously. And of all the smurfin' places to post this, I chose YM. The people who will only drink piss-grade booze because it's cheap, and I had to mention this here. I mean, if you do the numbers: According to my Phil Script, a lump sum investment of $17,000.00 bearing an annual return of 11% could grow to $389,169.04 in 30 years! Holy peat moss, Batman!

Well, Costco is suppose to be Up Scale so why wouldn't they sell outrageiously expensive scotch which makes me wonder why they are building one near me (I live in a cluster of collar suburbs with median income of 60K per household- well, ok there's 500,000 of us plus the other 1 million or so from the other suburbs and Big City that's within reasonable driving distance) but still... There's no Trader Joes, Starbucks, Whole Foods within 10 miles (ok maybe more like 5 miles - but it's all nasty city driving with stop lights on every corner - 5 miles could take 45 minutes to drive) - and we get a Costco? I'm thinking if Costco has stock and you own it -- this might be the time to ditch it.... they are expanding into lower end markets and competeing with WalMart/Target/and the dollar stores.... OK, Costco (like the Other Big Box stores) are starting to scale down their store sizes to 'back fill' into existing 'land locked' suburbs... so it's not a bad thing.

Oh please! You know most of us love our good quality booze. I think its much more YM that this scotch is what two business owners drink together when they are sealing a deal to secure more wealth!

Oh but whats REALLY funny about that is the need to still use the odd even pricing on what is so obviously an ultra-luxe item. Anyone who is going to shell out the equivalent of a YM approved car for a bottle of scotch, is not going to be swayed by a buck.
Oh well $17,000... no way, too much. But $16,999.00! NOW you're talking.
So if that was sold at Walmart, would the rollback price be $16,983.47?

Meh, it's a Lalique container worth $16,900 and a 60 year old scotch worth $100.
When we lived in AZ I used to go to that particular Costco 2x per month. They had some pretty interesting "traveling" merchandise shows. The ultimate in conspicuous consumption aka gaudy!

DH and I have never spent more than $75-$80 on a bottle of scotch. Beyond that, the extra quality is lost on us.
