University of Nebraska fans have long "suffered" with the title of "Classiest Fans" but they and the University deserve it, I think. Not only do they respect and applaud the opponents that come into their stadium, but they travel very well and you never seem to hear of misbehavior if they are in your town. The latest example was today. UCLA was the visiting team, and had a player struck by a car and killed earlier in the week. Not only did the stadium observe a moment of silence before the game (as would likely happen anywhere) but Nebraska students clad in the school's red colors released 200 blue and gold (UCLA's colors) balloons during the tribute. And Nebraska's players wore a decal on their helmets with the UCLA player's number. For a walk-on freshman for the road team. Very nicely done. Good job, Nebraska.

I'm a UCLA alum, a band alum and a hard-core Bruin fan. I agree that Nebraska folks are some of the nicest and classiest on earth. They deserve major kudos for their graciousness on Saturday. Our team has been traumatized by the loss of their teammate, and the graciousness of the Cornhuskers was awesome! The rest of the sports world should learn from (and act on!) their example!

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

This was a laudable gesture, and it's why the Cornhuskers have been a team worthy of respect, win or lose.
