Well, I finally went and got new plants for the front patio. I chose Greek oregano and Rosemary to start. It's going to be warm here till the first week of November, and I made covers out of a few of Paul's left over motorcycle shirts. Something told me not to throw them out, and now I know why. I plan on getting a couple more pots and plants, so now we'll see what happens Now I can stockpile dried herbs in the near future

I really wish I still has access to farmer's markets and grocery outlets -- when we moved to PA from FL I lost all opportunities for cheap produce! My only options here are Weis or ShopRite. I refuse to shop at Walmart unless I am absolutely forced to. None of our dollar stores sell produce. I love my stockpile! It's kind of a joke in my family but when someone needs any HBA items they come looking for me! I will definitely continue to stockpile hard as we are thinking about having kids soon and that will help cushion some of the financial shock of having kids Great idea!! I started couponing/stockpiling really seriously after I gave up my career to be a SAHM. I figured if I wasn't going to earn money, I sure could save money!!

Well, after scanning the ads this week, it looks like both Albertsons and Vons have finally gotten the message that their prices are too high. Some items are considerably lower. Now to wait and see if they can actually have worthwhile sales. If so, it will help my winter stockpiling

Actually, after I read the post of what you had donated, I was going to suggest diapers for donation. A lot of the low income clients I work with struggle to pay for diapers, and most charities will only give a few, like a day or two's worth, not even a package. A friend of mine runs a church food pantry. It's sad to say but they stopped giving boxes of diapers because people were taking them back to the store for money and buying beer and cigarettes with the money. That's when a lot of places started giving just a few days worth. Very sad indeed.

I love the way you picked herbs that look nice together too.

She was at the customer service desk at Wal Mart and saw a lady doing this that she had just given diapers to. It was the end of her shift and she had to pick up something at WM. She was curious and asked around. That's how she found out that it was common practice to demand money back then go for beer in the cooler. Very sad for the babies involved.

I stockpile estee lauder, does that count? When the fall gift event starts, I buy each item on a separate charge slip so I get 3 free gift bags. Doubles the amount I get as each gift is 1/2 oz of day cream / night cream / lotion / full size mascara / lipstick / eye shadow. Which is almost enough for a year for only $270 + tax! Plus it coincides with the 'Thanks For Sharing' event so I get 10% back in January

I get my perfume and facial product on a sale and buy one time for the whole year

I just love our new Wal Mart. Winter stockpiling is now on full throttle I don't understand how folks can complain about Wal Mart, then still shop there. Seems like a double standard........

This weekend I scored some ugly, bottom-of-the-box heirloom tomatoes and the end of the Farmer's Market day. $1.99/lb, normally $4.99. I made and stashed away 8 pints of chipotle salsa!

Unfortunately, I'm one of those annoying people. I HATE the crowds, the type of people (not sterotyping; but typical in my area), the poor selection of healthy foods, and the noise level. But, I almost always shop there for the low prices and convenience (the store is only 3 blocks from my house). I actually FEEL like a contradiction but the price difference is big enough that it would be silly of me to go to another grocery store. Sorry! If I ever won the lottery (or came into a large sum of money somehow) I'd go to the more expensive stores ASAP!

Another benefit to stockpiling, at least for me:
1) DH is going out of town to see his mother this month. I've stockpiled drinks and snacks for him to take on the road, so he won't be stopping for unhealthy stuff - I hope.
2) While he is away, I plan to do as little shopping as possible for myself. With a full pantry, I won't have to. I do plan to thin out the stockpile and get stuff ready for end-of-hurricane-season donating, which I do every year.

I thought of another benefit to stockpiling: When you're at the store and see something not on sale and can think to yourself: Nope, don't need it, I already bought XX of them for XX % less.

Our store was not a full service store till this last month, so I can see where you make your point. I only shopped there for items I can't get anywhere else. It's just opened the way for me not to have to go to the more expensive stores now. Our store is great now, open 24 hours, and way less expensive than 80% of the other stores.

I love Este Lauder too, but don't keep it to long, perfume will lose its fragrance eventually. I've had some that did. I use it all up in a year .... don't use perfume just the skin care products. The perfume clashes with my body wash

Oh flipping shizzle!! Grocery Outlet is by far the best place in town to stockpile. I just got another 10 bags of coffee for $9.99. Now I don't have to buy coffee for the next year... well, 6 months, the way I use it......

We have been living day to day while in this apt. being on the 3rd floor and no elevator, carrying groceries up is difficult.
i can't wait to get into the house in a few weeks to start stocking my walk in pantry, fill the freezer in the garage, and finally get back to normal living.
My biggest purchase recently was a container of 97 Tide pods for $21 at SAMs Club.

You would also be surprised to know that some over the counter drugs are effective way past the date stamped on the product too. SuziQ from the Grocery Challenge used to work for a pharma and clued us in on that. catching up on this thread now......please be careful with this. I work in pharma now, and have for the past 12 years. expiration dates are set as a result of stability studies that are done on process materials. they are the result of a ton of data and statistical analysis, and are very important dates to be aware of. drugs can absolutely still be potent long after the expiration date, but please don't ever expect the potency to be full strength after the expiration date. for some drugs like allergy meds, this could be a fatal mistake. /end thread hijack. thank you for your attention

I scored again today at the Grocery Outlet too: 12 oz. pkgs. of Canadian bacon for $.99/ea. 5.3 oz. pkgs. of spreadable goat's cheese for $.33/ea. 12 oz. pkgs. of bacon wrapped filet for $4.99/ea. Food Lion Italian soup (like Progresso) for $.33/ea. 1.5 lb. pkgs. of Land O Lakes sliced cheddar for $1.99/pkg. Every time I go there, it's like a little treasure hunt!!

It's a Mexican brand called Bonka. I bought one before I went back and got the others. it's got a kick to it, so that means it can be used hot or cold. It's in brick style packaging. dancinmama, you flipping scored!! Every time I go to grocery outlet, I have never spent over $40.00. It's always under. I just love it

I just want to make sure that anyone who wasn't sure, that saw your post, would still be careful. as someone with an anaphylactic reaction to some foods that can be quickly neutralized long enough to get to an ER (so I don't have to carry an epi pen) with a single dose of antihistamine, this is important to me

gin1984: It is a 2007 full dress Ultra Classic, with about 7K in mileage. Yes, it will be running. I am having a full service done to the bike. it has all the bells and whistles on it, like new pipes, chrome bumper guards, a quick disconnect feature for the back piece, and so on. Paul didn't get to ride it much before he passed. I have a photo on my FB page. PM me if you want to see it.

I can't remember seeing that brand at my GO, but I will look for it. I was able to stockpile 1-lb. vacuum sealed pkgs. of a "Christmas blend" for $1.99 and did the same thing. I tried it before I stockpiled. I really enjoyed the brew and its very subtle "flavor", so I stockpiled (26) lbs. It came from a roasting company in San Francisco that roasts and packages coffee specifically for the GO. Even though it was packaged for sale for last December, the packaging seems to keep it fresh. I did score. I spent more in a single trip yesterday than I have ever spent before because there were just so many great deals. The great thing is that since it was Wednesday, I got an additional 5% discount for "being old". I got all the filet that they had and a couple of packages of the New Yorks that they advertised. The New Yorks weren't bad so we are going to return this week and get a few packages to give to DS. He'll love the care package!! Since the very best deals at the GO are unadvertised clearance, there have been a couple of times that I've gone in and walked out empty-handed. I look for anything that is deeply discounted (and usually can be frozen); when I find it, I stockpile. Tonight we are having veggie pasta with organic Italian sausage from the GO ($.99 for a 12 oz. package of sausage).

<<stomps foot and pouts>> I want a Grocery Outlet!!! I really wish you had one too, Iggy. Since the advent of Extreme Couponing on TLC, the deals at my national grocery chains have decreased to a trickle. I still get an occasional great deal at Safeway, but they are really few and far between these days and rarely can I really stockpile due to either limits on the deal or limits on coupons. The Grocery Outlet does not take manufacturers' coupons and does not set limits. As a matter of fact, if an item is being clearanced because it's nearing its sell-by date (meat, cheese, etc.) which are the very best deals that they offer, they prefer that you take all they have to make room for another item. I feel VERY, VERY lucky to have somewhere where I can stockpile food items, especially meat and cheese, so cheaply.

dancinmama : Great finds!! I'm always happy to share info. I love this board because everyone helps everyone, and we look out for each other. We can't make a difference in other's lives if we don't share information. We'd be foolish if we didn't. Shopping at Grocery Outlet has put a big thorn in the sides of the big chain stores here, and today's ads prove it. Albertsons actually has a sale on Tri Tip, and I will actually walk in there now. I'm "Cherry Picking" regularly now
