In 2003 and 2004 we had a business that produced no income. Because of that I paid no Self employment taxes.
I was audited , had to pay for 2003, $2393.00 2004 had to pay, $4284.00 in self employment taxes.
Social Security shows $0.00 for 2003, 2004. Since I paid it, I want to collect on it.
Here is the problem, S.S. does not recognize form 4549, they want a 1040
How do I resolve this?

per the social security administration website the only way to correct errors in your social security account is to:
"Call us right away at 1-800-772-1213 (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. your local time) if any earnings for years before last year are shown incorrectly. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may call TTY 1-800-325-0778. Please have your W-2 or tax return for those years available.
You also may write to the Social Security Administration, Office of Earnings Operations, P.O. Box 33026, Baltimore, MD 21290-3026. If you are outside the United States, please write to the Office of International Operations, P.O. Box 17769, Baltimore, MD 21235-7769, USA."
and
"Remember, it's your earnings, not the amount of taxes you paid or the number of credits you've earned, that determine your benefit amount. When we figure that amount, we base it on your average earnings over your lifetime. If our records are wrong, you may not receive all the benefits to which you're entitled."
You may need to write to them, showing a "corrected" tax return with the 4549.
I am no expert on Social Security (I am one who will pay in and probably never get a benefit thanks to the poor planning by those before my generation and politics of the two major political parties that refuse to work together on this issue), so I am guessing here....

mwcpa, Thanks for your advise. So far I have had no luck dealing with the local SS office. I'll start this today.
