I heard on the news where a woman was taken by ambulance from her home in a rural small town in July. She has now been charged with murder because her newborn daughter was found drowned in the toilet. The mothers who are alone and have no or few people to help them weighs on me. I don't know a solution. Someone needs to check and talk with women on what to expect.

Artemis-I can't find anthing on your story though a mother here in Memphis last week stabbed her two young sons to death (2 and 6 years old) because voices in her head told her to do so. She apparently suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. Parents suffering with mental illness and with homebound children need to be closely watched. Mother says 'the voices' told her to kill her kids

And voting.

The latest news report restated the baby was in the toilet. The mother was the only person in that room until the emergency people entered.
I talked with some friends on why people don't help or check up. They just don't. Some people have absolutely no one. One woman said she knew nothing about at least 3 of her neighbors. I know very little about my neighbors; and if I don't show up for club meetings or league, no one checks.
I am in 2 groups that you have to sign up or show you won't be there. So that's a soft check.
Landlords can do nothing more than knock on the door.
I make a note of when I try to reach relatives by telephone whether I connect or not. Most of them live too far away that if something happened I couldn't help other than calling rescue.
I do understand why people keep to themselves and don't get involved.

Another soft check we have in our neighborhood (I live in a neighborhood watch area) is to see who's NOT setting their trashcans out for pick-up. It is how we found out our elder neighbor had shoulder surgery..
The story is a sad one.
I remember a woman who used to come into the gym I belonged to, telling everyone she how she had no one in her life, that if she didn't come in on her normal days to please check up on her. I don't know if the gym ever had to, but the thought of not having anyone, sounds so alone and lonely in such a big world..

The father has not been revealed. Maybe she doesn't know who it is. The articles also didn't say if anyone else was present in the house with her. Usually they will say who was around, if the person had other children or someone.
I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with the story or not. The further tragedy is a potential adoptive family. I am the most disturbed by that.
