As scary as it is, can I please say: "Let your kids be adventurous and have fun!" My grandson's mom unintentionally has made that poor boy terried of everything: bees, spiders, heights, water, amusement park rides, etc. She freaks out over ever little thing and hasn't let him be a kid and the poor child needs to be coaxed, begged, and/or bribed to do anything! I hope he grows out of it (he's 7 now). We try. His dad (oldest DS) is out-of-state in college for the 2nd year of his doctorate program, so things will get better once he's done. Anyway, all kids get injured and live to tell the story - makes life more interesting and fun!
This is what my 'crazy' sister done with her son. He wasn't allowed to get dirty. But my sister didn't do anything like that to her 3 older daughters.

laterbloomerQuidditch is a game from the Harry Potter books a longboard is a type of skateboard CSC - Computer Science Classes? I guess Klaatu is a kind of program?? the Tough Mudder is an intense obstacle course race and the last two have to do with the Quidditch game. You're welcome! Not bad, Beer. Klaatu was the computer science department server (other 2 were Niktow & Barada - "Day the Earth Stood Still") and it was hard to finish a debugging & compiling a program due at 8am if you (the collective class) crashed it in the middle of the night. Professors learned to warn us to expect 10% downtime; "I couldn't finish my program because Klaatu crashed" was our equivalent to "the dog ate my homework". As for Quidditch: since they can't actually fly on their brooms, they simply have to carry them at all times between their legs ; I guess it's like a handicap. If they drop it, it's the equivalent of falling off, and they have to go touch one of the goal posts before re-entering play. Bludgers don't hit people on their own, the players have to throw them, as well as the quaffle. The snitch is a person, who wears a yellow uniform w/ a velcro attached pocket at the back waist w/ a tennis ball inside. Catching the snitch means removing the ball from the player, but the snitch is also the ref, and makes the determination of if it was a clean catch. Just like in the HP books, the snitch can and usually does leave the pitch and wanders about aimlessly for a time. They've taken to wearing colored headbands to designate which position they are playing at any given time, since they do swap in and out (injuries, etc. and no magic to fix it). There must be at least 2 girls on any team, so they are always on the lookout for females to join the team - at one point last year DS2's hair was long enough that he began pulling it back in ponytails for practice, and someone spotted him from behind and got excited that new females had come to practice (DS is over 6'). They also like to ham it up and wear crazy clothes - at the Winterfest exhibition I saw several male players in Hello Kitty footie pajamas, and female players w/ beard hats.

Other people's kids sometimes scare the hell out of me... all too often they turn out just like their parents.
