Heading off to a spontaneous pool party this afternoon, BYOB/snacks... stopped at the liquor store for Tanqueray gin (for "gin & tonic w lime, poolside"). The 750 ml bottle was $22.99. The 1.75 liter bottle was $31.99
Naturally, I bought the larger bottle. My companion remarked that the big bottle contained far more than we would expect to consume that day. I explained that I saw the situation thusly: one way or another, I'm going to pay 23 dollars for three/quarters of a liter of gin. For nine dollars more, I get an additional liter. From my perspective, buying the smaller bottle just wasn't a practical option. "Leftover" gin isn't a perishable product that readily goes stale or spoils. I HAD to invest in the larger bottle.
We also picked up some smoked turkey, some smoked oysters and some mild provolone cheese, and a couple of different styles of craqueres (wheat thins, ect.)... a small baguette of french bread, fresh limes and tonic. Met with some interesting friends one of whom is an expatriated Australian "bloke" who's just about to repatriate. He was in his forties when he moved here, he's moving back to Australia next week after living in the US for 10 years. He was giving us his parting assessment of race relations in the USA, as viewed by an outsider over ten years... quite interesting to hear his perspective. Also in our company was a white woman and her two daughters. The first daughter is twenty years old and was born of an african-American father who had no part in her growing up, she had been adopted at six months old by the white man who married her mother at that time. Her sister, four years younger than her, was fathered by the older sister's adoptive dad. They each gave us their differing perspectives on the issue.
Perspective is a big part of perception.

Individual perceptions of the facts may differ, but the truth is always a matter of fact.

Where is this taking place? You're giving measurements in litres, but using the American spelling of "liters". Are some states adopting SI metrics?

Hard liquor is sold by liters and milliliters. Odd. OK, thanks. You learn something new every day.

I had to check my stash to see how the bottles are labeled.
They're marked with the abbreviated sizing - ie:
1L, 1.75L, or 750ml for example.
(And virgil, you know the Canucks almost always put the R before E.

(And virgil, you know the Canucks almost always put the R before E. Canadians use commonwealth English for most things. I say "most", because there are exceptions. Few Canadians use "foetus", for example, and the older generations still spell metres "meters". I use Americanized spellings on NMSNM except for words involving "ou", which is a bit of a running joke. Since the board is 95%+ American, it just makes sense. I didn't realize Americans used the SI system for anything outside of the sciences. And the American spelling is "liter", which patience used, hence I was curious about the disconnect.

I usually buy this size - it saves me uncorking so many bottles.
