I am a huge fan of the Richmond Spiders. Because seriously, how many people are scared of spiders?
Richmond's minor league baseball team is the Flying Squirrels. Other options were even worse. There are no flying squirrels within 1000 miles. Just boring squirrels.
And I went to W&M during the "Colonal Ebirt" years. Oh dear god. The Tribe with a god knows what as a mascot? Now it's a griffin? For such a good school we can't figure out a good mascot to save our lives!!

The Cleveland Indians' logo ( Chief Wahoo ) is pretty awful.

The high school in Tillamook, OR is called the Cheesemakers. Right, but that's the primary business in that area. Tillamook Cheese. It's a big deal.

The Cleveland Indians' logo ( Chief Wahoo ) is pretty awful. Our state has just outlawed school mascots depicting Native Americans. So, all Braves, Indians, Rogues, etc. must be changed within the next four years. (It was a five year time limit, and one year has passed.) If a school can get a tribe near the school to sponsor your mascot, then the school can appeal.

I can't help but think that Microsoft's logo should be a hand in someone else's pocket.

They just ran a story in the paper whether or not a local HS should change their name from the "Redskins". Funny thing is, the next town over are the "Chiefs" and no one has said a thing about them (yet).

This explains why Quizno's went with the spongemonkeys. And I will say that it was effective, because we are still talking about those ads, and they have been off the air for nearly 10 years. I had never even heard of Quiznos before that, so it did what it intended, I guess. Again, they aren't after my dollars, so if it worked on the weird college crowd, it was probably a good idea. www.slate.com/articles/business/ad_report_card/2004/02/the_creatures_from_the_sandwich_shop.htmlYeah, it generated talk. But I stopped eating there and haven't been back since.

Can't believe I forgot to put this in here. Our community college decided to get a mascot, and I guess a big group of people were ticked off about how much money was being put into athletics, so when it came time for the students to vote, the school ended up with this mascot. That was many years ago, and I love the fact that the athletics program just went with it. Scottsdale Community College, Home of the Fighting Artichokes!

Okey Dokey, Artichoky. Well, it looks pretty truculant to me, at least for a vegetable.

And today my DH emailed me Quizno's coupons. And I did not mention this thread to him.

There is pretty constant uproar in the DC region about the Washington Redskins. The owner has flat out said he won't ever change it, but it's pretty offensive if you ask me. Although I have to say the Indians actual mascot is a lot more offensive visually.
