dj, this is the first of many dominoes to fall. Detroit isn't unique, it's just the worst and first. as i said, the bankruptcy doesn't bother me. the city manager law does.

I was listening to Rush today, and he brought up this book- published in 1990, and it is fascinating. While it is true that liberal policies killed Detroit, and Detroit's unbroken line of Democrat leadership is responsible for the looting and ultimate death of one of America's greatest cities, this book- while ahead of its time- indicates that the underlying problem in the decline of Detroit was race. The book (haven't read it) reportedly tells the tale of a devastating decline that began in post-race-riots Detroit. www.goodreads.com/book/show/1821705.Devil_s_Night

This is unbelievable- I don't know who this dumb woman is, but I suspect she's a regular lib poster here or a close relative of one. She blamed Detroit's problems on...wait for it...
"austerity"
I guess spending $100 million more than you have for 9 straight years is the far left version of "austerity". And don't even get me started on "austerity" because not only does it not apply in this case- or in any case in either Europe or the United States- it's one of these poll tested words we hear repeated by Democrats and leftists like "draconian". They just like to say it.
But to try to spin the Detroit situation is pretty ballsy. The city has been run by an unbroken line of Democrats for 60 years. And this is what the absence of austerity looks like. This is what un-checked Democrat rule looks like. And I for one am most thankful for gridlock- it's been the singular means of surviving the Obama regime's reign of economic terror. In fact, there's been far too much cooperation with Obama. The GOP needs to take the occasion of Detroit to explain to America why there won't be another 'continuing resolution', and ObamaCare will NOT be funded in any budget. It's time to put the brakes on the Obama deficit and this is the perfect explanation as to why we have no choice.

What a shame but its no surprise. Spending to buy and keep votes is what cites do best. A politician who would have the guts to say we can't spend like this would find themselves out of a job. Something these unqualified people who couldn't get jobs weaving baskets will never do. Wonder if the Feds will bail them out? Oh, I mean the TAXPAYERS.

Oh, I mean the TAXPAYERS. ultimately that happens with all bankruptcies, even private ones. they might not do it with tax dollars, tho- rather with spending dollars.
