I just ran across a $180 gift certificate to a local Arts & Craft college while shredding some paperwork. I have about $200 worth of clothing to return sitting on top of my dresser.

Around $3k in loose cash, but very little of it is mine. I'm counting and depositing the summer revenue for a local non-profit fundraiser.

Cash? Maybe $3.50? The kids have more cash on hand than me, sigh.

I keep a $20 in each vehicle. Usually have about $40-$50 in the house. Rarely need or use cash.

Anybody looking for cash in our house would be disappointed. I have maybe $75 rolled up in coins. DH and I each take $200 at a time from the ATM so whatever is left of the latest withdrawal is in our wallets. There's also an old brass spittoon where DH throws his pennies in the bedroom.
If, OTOH, they found where I've hidden the key and combo to the safe and then found the safe and all the jewelry, they'd be able to buy enough drugs to last them the rest of the year.

Very, very little. Returning the empties would probably net more than a search of couch and dresser.
I know that I really, really should keep a couple hundred in small bills around just in case the power goes out or electronic banking goes on the fritz, but I don't. I'm convinced that the money will just get spent on silly stuff.

Yeh, I'm guessing money won't be useful in the event of apocalypse.

Any cash that's laying around our house is in my wife's purse (I have no idea how much she carries). My wallet might contain anywhere from 0 to 25 bucks on any given day. There's a check book, I have my credit cards, & I live between 2 branches of our Credit Union. I really see no need to have cash sitting around, if I need cash & do what I was taught......I ask my wife for some. I guess that I should add that my wife works within a stones throw (literally) of a branch of our C.U. If I needed $1,000 all I have to do is tell her & she can brink it home. I don't even have to leave the house. I probably would have to give a good reason though. I know from past experience that Mexico & Hookers won't get me but about 5 bucks.

This is a trick question, isn't it? Yur gunna come rob us? haha, that was my reaction too hmm....probably not too much laying around my house. ~$50? I've got a few clothing items I need to return ~$10? a pint-sized Scope bottle where I keep my spare change $406 in a travel mug in the back of my cabinet - I'm doing the calendar savings challenge. ($1/wk 1, $2/wk 2, etc...) there's rarely much in my wallet if you want to talk about items though, I've got a few pricey things between jewelry I got from my late Nana, electronics, crystal and such.

I've got $900 saving for vacation. I cash my pay checks from my part-time job and use that for vacation money.
I had $65 worth of running gear but I finally mailed that back to Running Warehouse.
We probably have $50 or so dollars in the change jar.

$50 from my birthday and whatever is in my wallet. I need to stash a little more. We got caught in that derecho. Fortunately I left a day early for a planned vacation. Before I left though I had to pay cash for everything till I got to where they had power. The area was without power for days and I had to empty my fridge and freezer when I got back.

I'd have to check under the furniture cushions to see if anybody has lost anything there. I don't keep cash.

Currently, the spare change jar has about $8 or $9 in it.
I also have $30 in rewards coupons for DSW Shoe Warehouse tacked to my frig. Does that count?

I have $300 right now. My daughter needs $330 for her antimony class this fall it's a dual credit for high school and college. I've been taking cash out of each check to have it set a side for when she starts school.

Maybe $1,000 plus or minus. Neither will gold or silver be useful. On the other hand, ammunition, aspirin, fish antibiotics (yes, humanoids can take them), toothpaste (and brushes), feminine products, wound dressing supplies and alcohol (for bartering) are all good to have on hand in the event of an apocalypse (unless it's zombie apocalypse and then your screwed)

Good catch Lone. Toilet paper, while I never use it myself, would be another good barter item.

The ammo should come in pretty handy if there are zombies everywhere. And you can use it in place of wound dressing supplies, because we all know once you get bit it's only a matter of time.

$ 35 in my wallet, $ 25 in husband's wallet at most, and $40 - $50 in change he likes to keep around. I'll get him to deposit it this month, because property taxes are due next month on the two rental houses. Free Coinstar machine at the bank, here we come !!
I used to keep $ 700 - $ 1000 in cash in the house, but I realized it wasn't a good idea. Now any cash we have is either in the bank account, or in the safety deposit box. I also stopped keeping the majority of jewelry in the house, because I realized that I could lose it in a fire, or by theft. We keep almost all of it in the safe deposit box as well. I have a couple of decoy jewelry boxes with some stuff in them, which I wear, but it's mostly costume. The safe has some old paperwork which is useless, and a few empty jewelry boxes. If somebody steals it, they're going to be mighty disapponted.

I think about $500 or so in an envelope in the safe. We keep a little spare cash just in case.

One day I happened to be going thru my arm rest & found it again (the 20). I realized that it had been in there for more than 10 years & that I had totally forgotten about it. I stopped keeping it there on the reasoning that it wouldn't do me any good if I didn't know it was there.

My reasoning for keeping cash in our safety deposit box was similar. We had been paid $ 750 in cash by our mechanics for an old Honda of my husband's. We then put the envelope in a "safe place." Well, we couldn't find the darn envelope for a year and a half. Just found it in the "safe" place. It was in an envelope in a book. Whoo boy. It went into the safe deposit box the next day.

NazgulGirl exactly. Back when my wife first started selling the jewelry she made we would put it into one of my bar pitchers so that she would have cash to run out & buy more jewelry stuff. I kind of stopped even suggesting that she do that when I realized that making jewelry was just a hobby & her aim wasn't to make money. My guess (ballpark guess) is that she has enough stuff on hand to make at least 500 necklaces right now & she & her friend still hit the sales & buy stuff. I really could care less as long as she realizes that when this house if full I'm not moving to a bigger one so she will just have to stop buying.

I knew I had $900.00 in my desk, but I was recently surprised to find $300.00 in a filing cabinet. Right now I've got another $1,100.00 from someone who paid back a loan which I haven't put in the bank yet.

I usually keep anywhere between $100-250 in cash, just in case I need it, but almost never carry more than $20 on me. I throw change in a jar. I noticed the other day I had probably $30 in rolled coin to take to the bank someday, probably at least another $20 loose. I try to keep a $10 or $20 in the glove box of the car too. I just think it's a good idea. I live 20 miles from work, if I ever forgot my purse and needed gas or something, it'd come in really handy.

well I recently cashed in my lose change for $288.89 (yea exactly) I put $200.89 in the account and spent $30 that day and put $30 back in the can and split the $28 and keep in the cars. my give to charity pile is growing. I'm giving away my surround sound. when I last moved, didn't unpack it cause I don't feel like running the wires
