A while ago someone said what ticket broker (and the location) is best to get show tickets. Of course I didn't write it down or even attempt to memorize it.
So...what was the suggestion again?
Thanks!

Could it have been the TKTS booth in Times Square? That's where most tourists get day of show tickets and they have pretty good prices. Not every show is available, so you have to just show up & hope they have something you want to see.
Oh, and this is my first post, so hi. I've been lurking since the old MSN days & just signed up recently because I'm going to need some advice soon on a windfall (everyone's favorite subject, I know), but this was a question I thought I could help with.

I think someone said that the one in Times Square was crowded and there was another one that was less crowded and worth the journey to find it.

There is one in Brooklyn and South Street docks. Here is some info. www.tdf.org/TDF_ServicePage.aspx?id=56depending on how you are traveling (car, taxi, subway, foot) it could make sense to visit one of the other locations.

Take a look on TicketLiquidator.com. I got tickets for Book of Mormon for about 75% discount. Booked them a day before the show though.

That's amazing about the Book of Mormon tickets; that show is normally sold out. I'll have to tell my husband about that site; he wants to see the show but I'm not enthused. Maybe he can get tickets to a matinee while I'm at work. Thanks for the tip, skubikky.

Yes it was me who suggested the TKTS office at South Street Seaport because it was almost empty. Another poster said it was damaged by Sandy though, and still closed. I'd check the website to see if it has reopened. We literally walked right in.

I've been lurking since the old MSN days & just signed up recently because I'm going to need some advice soon on a windfall (everyone's favorite subject, I know), but this was a question I thought I could help with. Here's a little preview of what you're going to hear: 1. Don't do anything with it for a little while until you have a plan. 2. Pay off all your debt. There will be considerable debate about whether or not there is any "good debt" or not. 3. Fully fund your retirement (401k and IRA). There will be considerable debate about whether you should do it as a lump sum contribution or spread it out as monthly deposits. 4. Stick the remainder in an S&P 500 Index Fund and make 11% per year. You've been reading this site for years - you know the standard answers!

It was me that said the TKTS booth was closed when I was there due to hurricane Sandy. Too bad since it was close to where we stayed. The line in Times Square was long but there was definitely entertaining people watching while we waited in line.

Thyme, you need to look at the website because you can only buy tickets for that day or in some cases the next day ... I'm not sure anymore, so check. There is also a TKTS app that you can have on your phone that allows you to see which shows have tickets available.

I've been to the TKTS South Street Seaport and the line wasn't too bad. You could stand in line while DH and the kids check out the area - it is pretty interesting.
But that is take what you can get - they may or may not have tickets to the show you want to see.

Welcome Kilroy.
My plan for your windfall:
1. Pay off debt, starting with the highest interest rate.
2. Fund your IRA/401(k).
3. Take care of anything that has been deferred such as medical check-up, dentist visit, car or home maintenance/ repairs.
4. Fully fund your Emergency Fund with at least 8 months of expenses.
5. Open or add to your mutual fund (taxable stock accounts).
6. Give some to your favorite charity.
