The Supreme court struck down part of the Voter's rights Legislation of LBJ'S and Congress, landmark legislation www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/12pdf/12-96_6k47.pdfAfter just striking down Arizona's voter ID Legislation as unconstitutional, the Supreme Court gutted most of the landmark voter id laws withholding African Americans from their right to vote , mainly through the deep south, but also Michigan. As far as I can determine, the reasoning is, the law is not really no longer necessary as blacks and minorities have gained the right to vote, and the states should no longer be held liable for past discrimination. This is a lengthy decision and I assume someone somewhere might find a shorter synopsis and post it here for discussion |
