Large hail and damaging winds were expected to pummel the northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service forecast, with storms already reported to have hit parts of South Dakota and Nebraska. Brief but brutal storms battered eastern South Dakota on Friday afternoon, ripping through homes and trees, according to NBC station KDLT in Sioux Falls. At least four tornadoes were seen sweeping through rural areas of Nebraska’s southern Panhandle, according to the Omaha World-Herald.Storm watchers reportedly spotted a twister and golf-ball-sized hail in the city of Sidney on Friday afternoon, the newspaper reported. There were similar sightings in the cities of Colton, Brownson and Potter.Harsh hail and wild winds could roll into Wisconsin and Michigan overnight, according to Dr. Greg Forbes, a severe weather expert with The Weather Channel. The Upper Midwest may also be due for a weekend of heavy rainfall, Forbes added. link

I am in metro Chicago. No hail or other nasty stuff. Just a big temp drop and about an hour of very heavy rain.,

Mother Nature struck Calgary, Alberta, and surrounding area with torrential rains and flooding. The SD storm also reached into south ND with rain, hail, floods. The Midwest from the Canadian Border through Texas to the Gulf of Mexico cannot catch a break in the weather.

Still wet here, too. Although, the nastier weather hit north & south of us. But, we're expecting several more days in a row of thunderstorms. Boo!

We've had a lot of rain this year, too. It rains just about every day. I'm in the lower mid-Atlantic area. I can't really whine much, considering the western part of the country is so dry they're shriveling and burning, and the upper midwest is drowning.

Central Minnesota got high winds (over 80mph in some places) and baseball sized hail. Of course, I was out of town for work, but my supervisor checked on my house and car for me. Some areas of town are on their second day without power. Many, many trees down. The VA hospital I work for had crews out right after the first storm (3am Friday morning) trying to clear the roads on hospital grounds as all of them were blocked by downed trees. The hospital ran on generator power until about 1pm on Friday.

I saw on the news where towns in NM (Again no reference link from me.) are using porta potties to conserve their precious water.

I was thinking about y'all out west while it was pouring buckets here over the past few weeks, lonewolf. It's a shame we can't figure out a way to spread the darned wealth!

Well, we had up to 75 mile an hour wind gusts Monday night with plenty of rain and some hail. Lightening was outrageously beautiful. This was a fast moving storm covering Chicago and northern Indiana. It has been a wet spring, but much needed to make up for low lakes from the last two years. Farmers should come out with banner crops through most of the Midwest this year.
