I have been looking at IWF and EFA. I believe they are index funds. Do you think they would be a good investment? I think SPY has been suggested also lately.

I will be honest. I don't know much about how to tell if they are good or not. I look at the return, what they say the risk is, and the fee. Other than that I am lost.

Compare them to the index they are associated with...use 5 yr and 10 year numbers I think anyone here will tell you NOT to concentrate any meaningful amount of money in just these two anythings If you know that you don't know anything...perhaps a dividend stock index mutual fund would be a better begining for you

The Popularity of Index Funds right now is one of their worst traits. Reason the Popularity has pushed the Market Prices of them into the Stratosphere. Check out this article: www.marketwatch.com/story/the-downsides-to-indexed-investing-2013-06-19?link=kioskOf course this is just one guy, speaking an Opinion based on some hard facts - which goes directly against the 5 million or so folks hollering " Index Funds are great, buy them, buy them, buy them, buy them now !! " One of the things that ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING AT ANY FUND, ETF or MUTUAL should look at the DISCOUNT/PREMIUM %. On an ETF Quote this is generally found right under the EX-Dividend Date. A NEGATIVE Number indicates that the Current Market Price is BELOW THE ACTUAL VALUE OF THE ASSETS CONTAINED AND HELD BY THE FUND {EG: -0.10%} A POSITIVE Number Indicates that the Current Market Price is ABOVE THE ACTUAL VALUE OF THE ASSETS CONTAINED AND HELD BY THE FUND {EG: 0.10} Ideally what one would really like to do is Buy any fund at a DISCOUNT {EG: -0.10%}. If One Can't do that then Buying at the Smallest PREMIUM {EG: 0.10%} is better. Then again, you should consider these 2 things as well - (1) The above stated is just an Opinion (2) The Opinion is provided by one whom is considered by some to be an Idiot.
